The lady from Myanmar wanted to meet me today, to explain her plight to me. Yesterday, I had already agreed to help her out with the six kittens by looking for fosterers and homes, later on.
I have discussed this with the vet, and it was agreed that the vet would monitor the health of the kittens until Monday before I take them to the fosterers. Some of them are having diarrhoea, but the vet thinks it is nothing serious.
The lady from Myanmar, whose name is Khi (I’m not sure of the spelling), came to the vet’s to meet me this evening. She said it was just one neighbour who complained to the local council about her cats. I asked her how many cats she was keeping and she said “eight”.
What???
Only eight?
Only eight, and the neighbour is complaining? Goodness gracious, some people I know have 30-40 cats in a linked house and have understanding neighbours.
So it seems the local council raided her house and gave her a 7-day notice to get rid of every single cat.
Khi is a homemaker and a volunteer charity worker at Tzu Chi. She uses her “kitchen money” to buy food for these stray cats and pay for their spaying-neutering.
I assured her we will help her with these 6 kittens, but our hands are also tied, so we cannot help her with her adult cats. She has decided to put the adult cats behind a restaurant where they would be able to find food.
Sigh….
Why can’t humans be more tolerant of other beings, and just live and let live? It’s everybody’s world, not just us humans’.
One day, the meek shall inherit the earth and I fervently wish we will be ruled by animals, and if the animals are then merciful to us, I hope humans would finally learn tolerance, understanding and kindness…from the animals!
One fine day, let the animals rule…
