Abandoned puppy, born with paws facing backwards, needs surgery (Kelly Tan Juat Jong’s)

Kelly Tan and Jacinta Emmanuel come under our Food Fund. They both take care of a total of 118 dogs in Tanjong Rambutan and Ipoh.

Yesterday, Kelly (who only speaks Chinese and is not IT-literate) called to request help for an abandoned puppy (along with its sibling) who was left outside her door. This puppy’s hind legs are deformed in that the paws are “facing backwards”.

Kelly took the puppy to her regular vet in Ipoh and the vet estimates the surgery to correct this deformity to be RM3000 for each leg.

Kelly is requesting for funds. She knows it is not easy to raise RM6000 for both legs, so even if we can help raise RM3000, she will proceed with the surgery for one leg. She says hopefully, if one leg is done, she can at least “train” the puppy to walk on three legs.

Since Kelly cannot use email, she requested her friend to send the following to me:

Translation:

Please help this puppy. It may be paralysed for the rest of its life.
Urgent! These two puppies were abandoned at Auntie Kelly’s doorstep. Out of compassion, Auntie Kelly took these puppies in. Later, Auntie Kelly found out that the hind legs of one of the puppies are deformed. Vet’s dianogsis is the hind legs are deformed and pointing backward. When the puppy grows bigger, the hind legs will not be able to support its body’s weight and eventually become paralysed.
The estimated treatment expenses is RM6,000. I hope AnimalCare can help in raising fund or share the news to the public, hopefully the public can help this puppy.
Last but not least, I would like to thank you for your help.
Our maximum subsidy for medical treatment is only RM500. Since RM3000 is needed for one leg, we may have to raise extra funds from willing donors for this case. I will find out more details if surgery is the only option. If you know of any such cases, please do share your experience by leaving a comment on this post.

Vet fees in Ipoh are generally more expensive than in the Klang Valley. Also, not every vet is willing to perform this kind of surgery.

Let’s do our best to help this puppy, shall we?

Thank you.
