Updates on seeking the assistance of our parliamentarian for more compassionate ways to manage the stray animal population

Before the elections, I wrote to the candidate-to-be and asked if he would be interested to discuss the issue of a more compassionate way to manage the stray animal population. I met him too, and he said to wait until after the elections.

I wrote after the elections, and was told to wait until after the YB’s office was set up.

I waited for the YB’s office to be set up and I wrote again on 4th July 2013: http://animalcare.my/2013/07/06/speaking-up-for-better-treatment-of-animals/, asking if the YB would be interested to hear us out on this issue. I also sent the information regarding our meeting with the local council.

On 15th July 2013, the YB’s personal assistant replied asking if I could provide the information from the two places in Malaysia where TNR had supposedly taken off. I replied that I could only get information from Kota Kinabalu and since the project was in its infancy, there were no statistics yet. The personal assistant also wanted to know “how much” our proposed project would cost. I replied that if she could please read our proposal, she would know that it doesn’t cost a single cent. We were only asking if our ear-notched animals could be spared from capture. This does not cost any money. In fact, if we could get more animals neutered and ear-notched, it might save them some money too (on the cost of capture and euthanasia).

On 16th July, the personal assistant replied that she would have to discuss the matter with the YB.

We are waiting to hear from them.
