Update: PAWS called me to clarify that the dog is not scheduled to be put down on 8th December. In fact, the dog isn’t even at PAWS. We apologise to PAWS for the misinformation as we published whatever that was forwarded to us by the animal-lover. Please also see comments below.
The original post:
I just received this from an animal-lover. Apparently, a lady is moving to New Zealand and has surrendered her English Cocker Spaniel to PAWS, and the poor dog will be put down on 8th December unless someone adopts her.
Her name is Megan. She is house-trained and has been this family’s pet for many years.
If you’d like to adopt Megan, please go to PAWS directly. She only has a few more days to go.
Please forward this link. It is urgent.

I have just contacted Alice, a volunteer at PAWS. Alice will find out more about Megan tomorrow, and we will work together on how best to help Megan find a home. Being old is no reason to be dumped and worse, to be euthanised.

I think we should find out where the owner lives, get their address and notify them as to how inhumane they are for leaving their dog to be euthanised. This goes for all other similar cases, and unfortunately there are a lot.
Please forward this to lady who is sending Megan to a premature grave
How Could You!
Yes, unfortunately there are so many of such cases – people dumping their pets because they are moving house, because the pet is old, or has some disease. There was even a case where an entire family sent their 2 year-old pet to be euthanised at the vet's because they were moving to an apartment and they did not want anyone to adopt their pet because they felt that "no one can love him as much as we do". And another case where the owner did not want a one-eyed pet – their pet needed one eye innoculated. The owner decided to have the pet put down instead.
Humans are so…..(you fill in the blank with the most suitable word, please).
We who realise how conditional adoption resulted in premature termination of life, try to push for breeding and sale of pets to be illegal. They are like human, once and perhaps even now, sold as slaves. But unlike human, who can speak for their rights, animals can never speak for their rights.
If there are no pets for sale but only homeless animals in shelters, people are more likely to adopt with unconditional love.
The word should be "enucleated" for the eye 🙂
Hi Edward, I asked a volunteer because it was midnight when the email came to me, and the next day, I was at a roadshow all day. I apologise for the misinformation, but as I have explained over the phone, the puppy.com posting by the owner was forwarded to me. It seemed very urgent at the time as the deadline was very close. We put up the posting to help the dog. Please see this: https://animalcare.my/2009/12/07/paws-clarification-and-our-apology/
I would like to respond to Kah Yein regarding the English Cocker Spaniel. This dog has never been surrender to PAWS for a start and we have never put any deadline on any dog or cat as far as I am here. Please do call the shelter at 03-7846 1087 if in future you want to know if any such dogs or cats has been send to us. Why ask a volunteer when you can call us directly?
Poor thing…is she adopted yet? tmr is 8th…
Hey…. you, lady who's moving to NZ! Megan does not deserve this. It's your responsibility to find Megan a new home…. how could you just leave her to be put down??!! It's totally wicked!
this dog is still available?
She has been adopted.
