Do you remember Sean?
He was one of our rescued dogs from the Klang Dog Pound back in 2009. Sean was found to be distemper positive, we got him treated and my mother fostered him for about 8 months.
After that, I kept in touch with Charlie occasionally by phone. Sean was adjusting very well. In fact, he adjusted right on Day One itself.
It must have been many months since Sean’s adoption now. Much as I would like to follow up on our adoptions, I also see the need to respect others’ privacy. Sean had been handed over based on trust, and I should let things be and not bug (!) the adopter endlessly for news. Well, I only “bug” for the first few days…just to ensure everything is turning out well, and I follow up a week after, maybe just one more “bugging” a month later just to find out how things are. After that, one simply has to let go, and have faith that all would be well.
Two days ago, as luck would have it, I bumped into someone familiar at the restaurant.
Why, it was Charlie and his wife!
Charlie recognised me as well and of course I immediately asked about Sean.
Charlie’s wife (whom I have not met before) got really excited and told me all about Sean. One could see she loves Sean so, so much and was very proud of him.
And why?
Well, believe it or not, Sean saved a life!!
Apparently, a very old dog was dying of tick fever. His blood count was dropping drastically. The news got around that the old dog needed blood very urgently. Charlie came to know about it and immediately offered Sean as a blood donor.
Charlie (very proudly) told me that Sean obediently donated his blood (in Charlie’s words, “Sean was so, so good….he never made any fuss at all. Followed me in the car quietly, and was so obedient at the clinic when the doctor took his blood.”).
Then, Charlie’s wife said the old dog recovered quickly and is well now, and the owner was so grateful, he gave Sean a huge pack of dogfood for saving his dog’s life. Isn’t that nice?
Charlie’s wife said they love Sean so much because he is such a good dog. There was tears in her eyes when she thanked me for giving them Sean.
Oh wow….I should be thanking them for looking after Sean and giving him so much love!
So I asked if Charlie would still be taking Sean to the workshop.
“No way!”, he said. Sean is staying put at home. After all, he gets on so well with their female dog.
Well, now, isn’t this a lovely story to start the day?
I’m so thankful to Charlie, his wife and his family for giving Sean such a lovely home.
Sean, you’re a hero!!
Have a great life!
Note: I also counter-checked with my vet yesterday, if it was ok that Sean, being a distemper survivor, had donated blood, and he said it was, especially since it was an old dog and it was an emergency. An old pet dog would likely have been protected through multiple vaccinations earlier on. Moreover, Charlie said the vet who attended to the blood donation did a bloodcheck on Sean first to determine that Sean was fit to donate.
You know, sometimes we cannot have everything exactly the way we want it, ie. perfectly. I have had quite a number of animals adopted, some turn out very well, some not as well as I’d hope it would be. We have to make do with the best we have, trust our judgments and let things take its own course. The universe will provide the answers as it is meant to be. Everyone comes with his/her own destiny.
Have faith. As long as your intentions are good, the universe will respond accordingly.

Well..well..well..it is a GREAT story for me to start a GREAT day too…and kudos to Sean, a GREAT hero, and his GREAT adopters, and not forget our Dr Chan, for saving Sean's life in the first place.
A touching story indeed. Even I have not donated blood in my whole life, but Sean, I have to learn from you darling.
Dear KY,and Sean's mum and dad..
I am moved to tears when I read about Sean.. it is so nice to know such kind family for Sean.
May their kindness be rewarded from Heaven.

tears in my eyes too!! Good job Sean!! We proud of you!
And to think, dear KY, that precious souls like Sean would have been mercilessly and wastefully put down at the pound if you had not courageously taken him out … amidst much criticism about your wise and farsighted judgement too, I would bet!
So sing, KY, sing loud about the good things that you have done … keep on singing!
Me, being only fit for the bathroom, I will just hum silently with you … heh! heh!
