A young rescuer with 4 kittens

Szetoo Weiwen wrote yesterday, asking if she could bring four rescued kittens for a check-up at our vet’s.  This is Weiwen’s first time doing kitten rescue.

She writes:

I was at a funeral last Thursday in Setia Alam and on the way back to my car I found the kittens in a box thrown beside a pile of rubbish outside a house. I asked the house owner about them and he got angry and said I can take them if I wanted.

I brought them home and fed them and every evening brought them back to that street for three days (cos the funeral lasted that long) hoping the mother would come but the mother never turned up. Suspected its the guy’s cat that gave birth but he didn’t want the kittens so he threw them out.

If the vet is free today I can go anytime before 5pm is fine 🙂 Thank you for the useful info will help me greatly. Where can I buy that brand of milk? Will go get it for them! Sadhu to you too Sis!

So, the appointment was set at 12noon, and Weiwen drove from her office (where the kittens are) to our panel vet.

The vet said all four kittens are in good health.

They are estimated to be only about 14 days old. They’ve just opened their eyes.

For a first-timer, Weiwen is doing a marvellous job.

 This is Weiwen.

Weiwen would like to put the kittens for adoption.  If you can take care of baby kittens, you can have them now, but if you prefer to wait until they are on kibbles, that’s fine too.  Weiwen says two of them are very beautiful and we hope they can get adopted.  She doesn’t mind keeping the two “less adoptable” ones, but she cannot keep all four.

The vet said this one may not look very adoptable now, but he/she could turn out to be very beautiful later. Well, all kittens are beautiful as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Or rather, in the heart?

The vet said NOT to change to any other milk since the kittens are doing well on this milk that Weiwen is using. Changing milk can also cause diarrhoea.  So, best to stick with whatever works. There are also cases of kittens thriving under all sorts of milk.  I guess it’s all about affinity again.

The kittens are too young to be dewormed, so that would have to wait until at least another 2 weeks or so.

If you are interested in adopting any of these kittens (now or later), Weiwen can be contacted at szetooweiwen@gmail.com.

Kudos to Weiwen for picking up these kittens, making the effort to locate the mother and now, doing so much to raise them well.

Today’s medical was paid entirely by Weiwen.  She insisted on paying.

Yes, angels do exist.

Well done wei wen. If you had not rescued them they would have die of dehydration with this kind of weather. It is sad to think that people can just throw a life away without any consideration for them. Worst of all these people are parents themselves. I wonder what goes through their mind when they were doing it.
Is this the example that they can set to their children. If they can do this to the animals I wish their children will do it to them when they grow old.

    Weiwen,

What you did was extremely admirable and I applaud your kindness and compassion.

You have also set another good example by not taxing AnimalCare's funds through your willingness to pay the medical expenses for the 4 kittens even though AnimalCare was willing to pay on your behalf.

Most other rescuers would have conveniently laid the burden on AnimalCare to settle the medical bill for them.
