Medical subsidy for Fafah, injured cat (Dawn Tan’s)

Fafah’s bill is RM100. We have subsidised RM50 for it, banked in to Dawn Tan Ju Hong.

From Dawn:

Hi Dr.Chan,
Thank you for subsidizing 50% of Fafah’s medical bill for cat flu and limping leg.
The doctor had advised the vaccination to be given a week later, so we didn’t include it in this bill.I will post the original receipt and form tonight. Meanwhile please find the scanned receipt + pics as attached, and write-up below.

Fafah was previously spayed and returned to her colony in front of my friend’s apartment in Setiawangsa. She would hang around and come to the apt door everyday where food is left out for her. Last week, my friend found Fafah limping thus not mobile enough to jump or crawl into secluded places, to hide fr kids and other dangers. So my friend brought her over to my apartment so I could help to bring to the vet the nxt day. Her eyes had watery discharge, her nose dripped and wetted half her body. I brought her to the vet’s the nxt day and the doctor said to board her there for medication, observation n for her leg to heal properly.

After 5 days, her flu is gone. Fafah is fit to go home now 🙂

Upon discharged, I tried to home Fafah with my 2 male cats. In the day time, I put her on my reading chair in my room, to recuperate.

At first, I put her at the backyard at night so she could use the kitty litter. But Fafah had climbed all the way to the top and tried to escape through the top most ventilation panel. I managed to take her down on time and put her in a cage during the night. Altho she was very tame and enjoyed human company, I think she yearned to go home. She refused to eat for the next 2 days and cried for 2 whole nights (didn’t matter even if she was in my room or in the cage). So on the 3rd day, my friend took her back to Setiawangsa. She could recognize her ‘home’ the minute the car drove through the guard house. Once ‘home’, her appetite came back. She ate, slept and went to look for her friends around the staircase- she had a boyfriend and a female friend there! In cases like these, as much as I worry for her safety, it broke my heart to deprive her of her happiness. She was obviously much happier being a community cat. So I can just hope and pray she would be well and healthy!
Thanks!
Best regards,
Dawn Tan

I empathise so much with Dawn, but I also appreciate her wisdom in recognising that some cats really are happier outside in their communities. They obviously value their freedom more highly than security, much as it might pain us to let them go. I wish Dawn and Fafah all the best…

    Hi Maneki

I am currently facing similar issue with my male kitten (8 months old). He will keep trying to climb out of my house. I raised him & another female kitten (now also 8 months) from young (about 4-6 weeks old)in a cage place at car porch area. I will let them out twice daily. The female kitten hardly climb out.

I think the male kitten is just curious & wanting to explore wider area. The problem is the road in front of my house is not safe for any cats. If I let him roam outside, I am sure eventually he will get knock by a car. As I think he is not street smart to keep a look out for cars. At the same time he will cut a pitiful face whenever I refrained him from climbing the fence or gate.

I am actually facing this dilemma.

Hi BK, are your kittens neutered? When my boys were 6 mths old kittens, they started making a lot of noise at the door and wanting to go out, I figured it was time to bring them for neutering. That solved the problem for me.

Then again, some cats are just born to be outdoor cats. One of our office cats would rather die than be confined in the office, so we put a tag on him, and let him out during the day. He will come back for lunch and afternoon nap, head out again in the evening and come back again for the night.

It is difficult to identify and find a most suitable solution, but we just have to try our best for their interest. And pray.

    Hi Dawn

Yup both are neutered / spayed when they are 6 months. Tenten (male kitten) I think he is depressed as lately he been losing furs. Also I noticed yesterday & this morning there is either watery poo or regurgitation, I can see some furs. Tenten also has a habit of eating grass lately. I know cats will eat grass for some sort of remedy.

Tenten seem to be very happy when he manage to get outside. So I wonder should I let him roam and lead a happy short life (anticipating possible fatal accident) or should I confined him thus making his life miserable.

Hopefully things will turn for the better eventually.
