An appeal to a local council to spare the lives of 10 dogs

We are appealing to a local council to spare the lives of 10 dogs who are residing inside an Indah Water facility.

Dear Sir,

A fishmonger, Then Lai Fatt, who actively practises CNRM (Care-Neuter-Return-Manage) under our sponsorship is currently rounding up 10 dogs to be neutered and thereafter, to return them to the location. Since it is very difficult to get adult local dogs rehomed and most of the shelters are full, returning them to the location is the next best option. Having been neutered, they will no longer breed. The residents will look after these dogs.
These dogs are located INSIDE the Indah Water facility at (location). About 1 1/2 weeks ago, the local council truck passed by and asked the guards to open the gates of the facility. Most of the dogs fled but the mother-dogs stayed to protect their puppies who were too young to run. As a result of this, the mother-dogs and their puppies were captured. According to Ah Fatt, there were about 20 of them.  The local council staff then informed the guards that they will be coming back for the rest of the dogs soon.
These dogs are looked after by the residents and the guards at the facility and do not pose any threat or disturbance to the public as they live INSIDE the Indah Water facility. The residents supply dogfood and Ah Fatt is getting all of them neutered so that they will not breed anymore.
We appeal to your goodself and the council to please spare the lives of these dogs.
Thank you.
Regards,
Dr Chan Kah Yein

My heart really breaks just thinking about how scared and helpless the mother-dogs must have been. They stayed to protect their puppies (as all mothers would) and as a result, they and their puppies were all captured. I have asked Ah Fatt if he would like to go to the pound to get the mother-dogs and their puppies back. But we would then have to find a place to house them safely. They cannot be returned to the facility.

Meanwhile, this is one of the male dogs caught by Ah Fatt yesterday.

This dog will be neutered.

According to Ah Fatt, the dogs were previously very friendly and approachable as the residents and the guards feed them, but ever since the local council people came to capture them, they are now very afraid and they run helter-skelter when they see people. They seem to have lost their trust in humans now.

In the first place, the dogs live in the Indah Water facility and did not pose any harm to anyone. No one complained. Did they have to be captured?

What can we do to help out?

The best is to find homes for these dogs. We do not know how the local council will respond. We also do not know if the mother-dogs and their puppies are still at the pound.

Any pics of the dogs for us to send a SOS/shout out for adopters?

Hi Kah Yein, I’ve tweeted about this page just now. It’s the least I can do, seeing I can’t adopt because I don’t live in a house and don’t have space for a pet. Will be sending positive thoughts to the dogs too.

What about transporting the remaining dogs to a no kill shelther for a week or so (for short term measure) and in the meantime try to find adopers, and if by end of one week, then we release them back to the place (last resort) if unable to find suitable adopters. All this is only workable if the dogs start to trust Ah Fatt again afer the whole episode with the council people.

Hi Yoke Mei, Would you be able to source for a no-kill shelter that can take them in?

  6. If the dogs are found and retrieved maybe a temporary shelter could be set up in a location that is safe. We could rally to set up disaster fund relief to help these dogs. If anyone who have the safe location for these dogs could provide the temporary shelter would be very much appreciated before they get adopters.

I don’t personally know anyone from any no-kill shelther, but I can ask/write to them. Will let you know.

KY, if Ah Fatt can take the mum and pups out – we’ll look for temp homes for them. Reading how they stayed back to protect their pups and got caught as a result is truly heartbreaking.

Thanks, Wani. I’ll let Ah Fatt know.

SOS!!!! Dear all, refering to the indahwater loji dogs, 1 1/2 weeks ago I had personally rescued 1 mama and 1 puppy (only 1 left due to council came and caught the rest) pls read and read the heartbreaking story with photos what this mamadog and her puppies gone thru at https://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.2914587083024.94030.1811103395&type=3. The mama is like what the other loji dogs now, scare and doesn’t even trust human at all, even the person who foster her and feed her daily for 1 1/2 weeks now cannot get close to her without growling. She rejected her last survival puppy and we have to feed it now. Mama today escaped (forthe 2nd time) while fosterer were out, she smashed open the cage door and bitten 2 chains in halves and ran away. Apparently she must have climb herself over the fence. Incident happend this evening (13/7/2012). We hope to get some help and have people over to the fosterer tomorrow to help him look for mama, mamadog had went thru a very bad incident with the mpsj pound and now she is on the loose near Nottingham University with a collar and partial metal leash attached. We are scare that she may get herself stuck somewhere coz of the leash. We intend to have her spayed immediately once she’s found but we cannot do it alone looking for her. Please someone, please call JJ at 0126950329 to arrange for a search party for mamadog.
