Prognosis poor for Ongsan, it’s sporo in the lungs (Maslinda Abd Talib’s)

While we celebrate the good news on Sunshine and Max’s adoption, we are quickly reminded that there are other not so fortunate animals and this, is indeed a reality of our life and theirs.

Maslinda brought Ongsan to one of our recommended vets and the prognosis is very poor. It’s sporotrichosis but what makes it grave is that it’s not your normal sporotrichosis manifested in exterior wounds. The sporo is internal, in the nasal cavity and has spread to the lungs. Ongsan’s liver is enlarged and he is also jaundiced. The vet suggested euthanasia as did the first vet yesterday, but Maslinda will not resort to that. Ongsan is still alert and eats reasonably well.

Today’s diagnosis, tests and antibiotics is RM370.so and we have sponsored in full (50% from all donors through our Medical Fund and 50% from Berjaya Cares).

We have given Maslinda the contact of one of our readers who will be also helping from her side.

Please pray for Ongsan’s recovery and to be free from pain and suffering. Right now, though the prognosis is very poor, Ongsan seems to be clinically “okay”:

Hi

Ongsan

as told just now, the prognosis is bad coz the sporo has  entered the respiratory area. therefore ongsan might experience breathing difficulty. from the blood test, his liver function test are also not looking good
he’s prescribed with lots of antibiotic and meds. i’ll also continue Transfer Factor usage for him.   on monday might seek 3rd opinion from other vet
as for now, let’s take thing step by step. for me, he still look alert, always try to escape from the confinement, which means he’s still active. will make sure that he’s eating and drinking well. he seems interested with the food, but maybe since he cant smell, so the appetite is slightly off. but when i fed him with AD, he eats well and not refusing the food
his stool and urine is looking good. solid stool and urine color is great
pray for his speedy recovery
thanks
mas

We thank Maslinda for her willingness to look after Ongsan. Our reader is also going to help and she has been in touch with Maslinda now. Ms Kyi (the Myanmar lady who alerted us about Ongsan’s case) is also in touch with Maslinda as she too is concerned about Ongsan.

On a happier note, Ping Ping (Mark’s sporo pet-cat) is now 80% recovered and will be going home already.

Here are photos taken of Ongsan when Maslinda dropped in at my house after the visit to the vet:

 In the carrier.

Peeping out from the carrier top.

It’s a relief that Maslinda has so kindly offered to take over Ongsan as Ongsan was free-roaming with other cats in the colony. Sporotrichosis spreads, is life-threatening as well as zoonotic. A sporo cat should be confined and proper care must be taken in handling him/her.

We have offered full sponsorship for hospitalisation for Ongsan should Maslinda decide on this.

We also understand that Ongsan’s case is made more difficult because the disease has spread to his respiratory system.

From our reader who helped in Ping Ping’s case and is now helping with Ongsan’s case (this reader has requested anonymity):

Dear Dr. Chan,

Good news is Ping Ping is now 80% cured and the vet is discharging him soon.

Re Ongsan Mas has texted me and I will bring him in to see my vet on Monday. Meanwhile, I have already texted my vet (she now in emergency surgery) and I will drop in to see her personally tomorrow.

Had advised Mas to keep Ongsan hydrated with glucose and TF (as this had worked immediately to revive my cat who had blood parasite and placid during last CNY).

Let keep our prayers for Ongsan that he will pull through this. Although he already jaundiced but there is still hope as long as Mas can keep on feeding him. His condition his critical as the sporo virus is in his nose and has travelled to his respiratory passages.

Regards.

We ask you, dear readers, for your prayers for Ongsan to be well again.

 Please pray for Ongsan.

Is Ongsan now on Sporanox? If yes, I have leftovers from the time I bought the whole box for little Blacktail. Can pass it to Maslinda if she needs it.
