In response to the Pulau Ketam Tragedy where hundreds of stray dogs (including home pets) were abandoned in neighbouring islands to die, AnimalCare was formed on 31st May 2009.
Its intention is to create a platform so that people who are sympathetic towards animals could come together and collectively pool their efforts to help animals.
There is also an urgent need for education to create awareness of the plight of stray animals, especially on how uncontrolled breeding can lead to problems similar to the one on Pulau Ketam. Hence, one of AnimalCare’s main concerns is to encourage caregivers to bring stray animals for spaying/neutering at its panel of veterinarians who have agreed to provide a discounted rate for strays.
In line with its motto, “Working together for the Animals”, AnimalCare aspires to create more public awareness and empathy towards the suffering and needs of animals. It takes collective efforts to cultivate a level of kindness that can bring forth a safer and more compassionate environment where human and animals live together harmoniously, with humans taking the lead in caring for their less fortunate fellow beings.
AnimalCare was started by one person who believes that animals deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. One person alone may not be able to achieve much, but one person CAN make a difference by putting into action what she believes to be necessary and relevant to create a more compassionate society for all living beings.
