Updates from Vics

Here’s some happy news from our cat-angel, Vics. Vics has helped us get four kittens adopted.

On Wednesday in the office, I read your blog and on reading about Maxis, tears started rolling down my cheeks. I then told myself its ok, Maxis is in a better place now. He will be happy there.

Then I read further about Abby and cried again and felt so very very sad and had to go to the toilet to compose myself. Poor, poor, poor Abby. My heart goes out to her.

I am now updated on the latest and though I still cry for Abby, I am also praying very hard that Abby will get along with Frannie’s 21 cats and have a loving home and family to spend the rest of her life with.

I have never understood how some people can be just so cruel and heartless.

MenMen, one of my dogs, was also abandoned. The owner herself told me how she had him since he was pup (he was 8 then in 2007) and that he slept with her on her bed and how she dotted on him. I have sent her sms, tried calling her, even went to her house to look for her and left note for her (nobody at home) but to no avail. I even went to our mutual vet to find out if he has her latest telephone number. No luck there also. She just never bothered to come to collect MenMen and DogDog (also hers). They are now with me for a year plus and they are very good and loving dogs.

The other two, Tata and ChaBoKia are neglects from across the road. ChaBoKia decided that she wants to be mine and squeezed her way into my house through the fence. I took Tata in when she was a pup and when the MPKj guys came around. I had them both spayed.

They each have their own characteristics and such joy. Really like children, they play, fight, stop for a while and the continue playing. Sometimes I join them and get such a kick out of playing with them.

Only problem I have and perhaps you might have a solution to – how to get them to stop barking especially when other male dogs come around? MenMen has been neutered and he is the noisiest.

In the day time, its not so bad, but at night, when everything is so quiet, they are really loud.

My friends say I have got it terbalik. People tied their dogs up during the day and let them loose at night. I on the other hand, tied them up at night and away from the gate hoping they won’t be able to see when dogs come around. Not much help. Some nights, I have to come down and hush them up 2, 3 times. I am so afraid neighbours will complain. You know of a solution??

Fazela has finally given me the adoption form. The reason she took so long was that she couldn’t think of any names for the 2 kittens. Both poor babies were called Comel.

One night I feel asleep thinking of names and then awoke and I thought to myself – the names are right there, in the people who gave them a chance of survival – Rani and Kah Yein!!

So I told Fazela to name them NeeNee and EinEin and to write the names in paper and let the kittens choose their names.

Guess what?! Fazela told me that the dark coloured kitten took the name NeeNee and the one with white underside EinEin. They know!!

NeeNee and EinEin have both grown quite round and even had their first balik kampung trip. On the way, they sat quietly in the car and slept on the laps of the children. They were the first ones to leap of out the car when they arrived in Melaka.

I have asked Fazela and Nurain to take photos of the little ones but both of them say pantang – take photos of the little ones and they will get sick!! Told them no such old wives tale. I have taken hundreds of photos of my cat, dogs and strays cats and kittens in the alley and they are find. Even told them about Patches and Ervina and BimBim and Raihan.

Lets hope we get to see the photos soon.

Hey Vics, thanks for the lovely updates and for sharing your story. And thanks for naming the two kitties after Rani and me. Gee, what an honour!! It’s ok if Fazela and Nurain have that “pantang” about taking pets’ photos. We will respect that. Updates and news that the kitties are ok will be good enough.

As for the incessant barking…tell me about it. I too don’t know what to do. Mac barks incessantly too, but that’s because the neighbour at the back shouts all the time. This neighbour also has put in two complaints to MPSJ against Mac for his barking. So when the officers came with the summons, my husband brought him into the house and asked him to listen to the neighbour’s incessant and continuous shouting (they do not talk, they shout). The officer was sympathetic and said, “You also can put in a complain against your neighbour for disturbing the peace with their shouting”!

But we didn’t. And just yesterday, I heard another complaint from the neighbour again, this time, it was from their child (the whole family shouts, it’s their way of communicating, and I can heard every thing that they say all day, not that I want to!). Mac only barks when they shout, and they shout all the time.

Can anyone help Vics and me on how to stop a dog from barking? I’ve asked the vet before and he said it is because the dog is not happy with something. Solve that “something” and it will stop barking.

My “something” is my neighbour, and I cannot solve that! Unless I move house?
