Are we being taken advantage of?

Today, one of our panel vets told me, with all good intentions, that there may be people who would take advantage of our funds.

I appreciate his concern very much, and I am well aware of this.

In fact, when I first started AnimalCare with a group of volunteers, I had NOT intended to start a fund at all (I did not want to handle public money).  I decided AnimalCare would have no money at all.  We would just concentrate on educating people about CNRM and expect them to just do it.

We consulted elderly people who had done charity work for a long time, and one of them advised us to be realistic.  I remember he said it’s very hard to get people to start doing this sort of thing unless you provide them with the money as an incentive to do it.  That’s how we started to raise funds through the talks that I give.

And I did voice my concern about people who might take advantage of our fund, ie. use it for their own pets, etc.  And our elderly adviser (who had seen enough of human nature) had this to say, “Let them…it’s their own wrongdoing.  You are concerned about helping the animals.  Never mind what the humans do.  You would still be helping the animals.”

That’s true, I suppose, so I started this fund with that awareness.

If people abuse our funds, it’s their own wrongdoing, not ours.  And what goes around, WILL come around.

The universe is fair.

So for people who are new to our work, permit me to reiterate what our funds are for:

1.  We sponsor the spaying and neutering of STRAY dogs and cats.
2.  We can sponsor the spaying and neutering of NEWLY-RESCUED stray animals whom you wish to adopt as pets.
3.  If, as a rescuer or new-owner, you can afford to chip in partially or even completely, we welcome that very much.

Due to limited funds, we will consider medical treatments on a case-by-case basis.  If there is any urgent and needy case, I would normally raise funds again for this specific purpose (as in Super’s case).

Our adoption drives are mostly through postings in this website.  A much faster way is through petfinder.my – it has a very wide readership.  You can put it up yourself.

So, please do “take advantage” (!) of what we can offer you.

Together, let’s help the stray animals.
