Just as when I thought my day would be over, I received a call from Teresa saying Terry was bringing over a rescued mum and her kitten. The kitten seemed to be suffering from some kind of skin ailment which, in Terry’s opinion, warrants a vet’s attention.
So it’s off to Healing Rooms again….and I met Terry, and the rescued pair.
The mother looks fine, and the kitten has mange (which is caused by mites). According to the vet, again, it’s best to let the body’s immune system fight it off since the medication for mange (which is an injection) is highly toxic.
According to Terry, the mum gave birth to five kittens but four died. This is the only one who survived. Poor thing…
The kitten looks to be about at least 6 weeks old and can already be weaned off from being breast-fed, so the vet advised Terry to separate the kitten from the mum, get it started on dry food, and after about a week, when the mother stops lactating, we can get her spayed before releasing her back to her colony in OKR.
