Good morning, everyone.
We have a few surgery/medical cases on our hands this week:
1. Mr Siva’s TVT-girl needs chemotherapy for her tumours. We still do not have an estimated cost yet because Mr Siva could not bring TVT-girl to the vet yesterday. All of us were busy with work. But I have checked with several vets by phone, and it costs about RM80 to RM120 per shot. The dosage depends on weight of the dog, too.
2. Chow (the 10 year-old Chow Chow whom the shelter wanted to euthanise) needs medical treatment for his ear infection. The shelter staff promised to bring him to a vet in Bangsar for treatment, but has not updated me on the cost nor the prognosis. We are sponsoring half because a kind lady has pledged to pay for the other half.
3. Mr Siva’s “Boy-C” (the one whose maggot wound surgery we sponsored) has been diagnosed with widespread cancer now. One vet says there is nothing more we can do for him but we are seeking a second opinion. The least we can do is to reduce his suffering with painkillers.
4. We have another case this morning – an adult cat with a persistent wound in its leg which refuses to heal. We are bringing the cat to Healing Rooms today for a second opinion, and hopefully, to be treated.
For all the cases above, if the cost exceeds RM500, I would have to raise additional funds for them. This is because our primary mission in AnimalCare is to sponsor the spaying/neutering of strays.
I started this group with so few people, and we did not have enough humanpower to do adoptions/rehoming nor did we have enough funds to sponsor medical treatments and surgeries. But inevitably, these cases came to us and being “AnimalCare”, of course we cared and we had to help.
Kaiser and Joanie came soon after we started – how could we say “no”? Then came Maxis, and Super, and the rest is history.
That is how we ended up doing adoptions/rehoming (but I’m really happy with the positive response we are getting) and sponsoring medical treatments and surgeries.
So, our funds are used primarily for the spaying/neutering of stray animals. When a medical treatment or surgery case comes along, we will have to raise funds again. Otherwise, the medical treatment and surgery costs can really wipe our funds out. Whatever little bit of “replenishment” to our funds helps.
I am now waiting for the estimated cost for the cases above, and will update all of you accordingly.
