We can surely do with some good news today.
Yesterday, a rescuer called me on an SOS. Apparently a dog (someone’s pet) had been knocked down by a vehicle and was rescued by a good samaritan who had brought her to a shelter.
The shelter wanted to put the poor dog down, judging from the severity of her injuries. She could not move at all and the only signs of life was her breathing.
The rescuer intervened, called me, and I said to bring her immediately to our panel vet for a prognosis. We will help with the cost of the treatment.
Yesterday’s prognosis was pretty bad. The liver enzymes were very high and the white blood cell count was also incredibly high, indicating very bad liver trauma and severe infection.
The dog was put on drips to flush out the toxins.
And the vet just called me a few minutes ago, and voila…the dog is walking today! And the vet says she can be discharged soon. The vet is quite sure she is someone’s pet judging from her demeanor and built. She is a mongrel.
It is now too late for me to visit to take a photo, but I will do so tomorrow.
The people who had brought the dog to the shelter said they would put up posters to try and locate the owner (in the vicinity of Taman Tun).
One step at a time….
I can’t help feeling blessed for several reasons now.
1. The dog has more or less miraculously recovered. She was almost dying yesterday.
2. The people who are involved, the rescuers, especially, did not dump the animal on us. Everyone is taking some responsibility in sharing out the work involved in saving this dog. This is precisely what our motto says: Working together for the animals. It is not about finger-pointing or passing the buck.
It IS still a wonderful world….
I hope I am not speaking too soon on this, but then again, I live for the moment so I shall now rejoice.
