Salem, the black cat – for adoption

Two days ago, Ainey rescued a little black kitten, and wrote to ask how she should look after him.  Ainey has only looked after dogs before (she has two pugs), so this is her first time fostering a cat.

Way to go, Ainey!

i took the kitten to the vet… it’s a boy and he’s black, so i name him Salem (after the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch)… vet estimated him to be 6 to 8 weeks old, n he weighs 0.5kg… he’s healthy except for some ulcers on his tongue, which vet said could be caused by the calicivirus… so i’m to monitor him for a week, vet said to watch for watery eyes and limping… he’s dewormed n frontlined (vet noticed flea eggs on him, but no flea)…

i gave him kibbles, but he does not eat them, so i gave him AD can food mix with some kibbles n he loves the wet food, but still doesn’t eat all the kibbles… he pee-ed, but has not poo-poo yet… vet said to feed him 4 times a day, but i think i can only manage to feed him 3 times a day due to my work schedule…

how do i toilet train him? i bought a litter tray n put it inside the cage… other than that, vet said i could take him for vaccination in a week’s time… do you think he’s old enough to be put for adoption? Salem is the first ever feline under my care… 🙂

Here’s Salem…(photo below).  Salem poo-ed yesterday, so that’s good news.  And he’s already toilet-trained now.  Kittens learn really fast!
