Good morning, everyone. Today will be another day of save and rescue up in Bentong. The SPCA team is going up with us today. I hope their vets can help us identify the sick ones and I have been working non-stop last night, as well as right now, sourcing for space here so that we can bring them back for treatment.
Yesterday, Dr Khor identified seven suspected of being sick, amongst this, one was tested positive for distemper. Three were negative – he suspects it’s a flu (given antibiotic jab). But they need daily medication.
The one with the eye wound, Jackie, also tested negative for distemper, has already been brought back for treatment yesterday itself. Since we went in private cars, we could only bring one dog back. Today, since SPCA is coming, we hope we can bring more back, on their van.
I think it would be too much of a burden to ask the helpers up there to feed the sick ones medicine as the helpers have chores to do, and there is only one helper, Mr Mariappan, looking after so many dogs. So, the best is to bring the dogs back and we get volunteers to nurse them.
Here’s where you can help us:
1. I am still trying to arrange for foster homes to take in these sick dogs. If you can offer even one space, it helps tremendously. Every life we can save is precious.
2. I am looking for volunteers to go to these foster homes (with permission, of course) to administer the medications on a daily basis. We can match the volunteers with homes nearest to them.
So, even if you have no time but can provide a space on your porch for the dog (we will provide the cage), we will get a volunteer to come in to nurse the dog on a daily basis.
Please help. If you can, please text me at 012-6935870 as I will be in Bentong this morning.
Do not be worried of the diseases transmitting to humans. Dog diseases normally don’t – will seek advice from vet on this to saveguard all our volunteers.
