Two football pups adopted today!

Do you remember Chelsea and the football pups we brought back from LLLP, Bentong in October?  At Bentong, we found that Chelsea was sick, and the pups had rashes, so we brought them back for treatment.  Our friends, Andrew, Yi Lin and their children offered to foster the entire family.

Yi Lin with Chelsea.
Timothy and Samantha (Andrew and Yi Lin’s children) named the pups Cesc, Nino, Stevie, Lamps and JT, after footballers, hence, they became known as the football pups.
Cesc was the first to be adopted.  When that happened, Chelsea cried.  I know, it’s so sad, but the reality is that we had to get the puppies adopted.  And no one was able to take the entire family.
Cesc with his new family.  Cesc is very happy now.
Nino was next to be adopted.  This time, Chelsea seemed ok.  Nino is now living with an elderly couple who loves her to bits.  Photos later.  Still in Andrew’s camera!
Now, we had some problems getting the rest of the puppies adopted until Ainey contacted a Mr Kanthan who was looking for puppies.  Voila!  Kanthan wanted all three after looking at the photos.
I asked Kanthan if he could take Chelsea as well, but he said he’d rather just have puppies as they would be easier to train.  I told him Chelsea is as gentle as ever, but he said she looked a bit fierce in her photo.
So, that was settled, and today, we went over to take the 3 remaining puppies and deliver them to Kanthan’s house in Batang Berjuntai.  Yes, that was how Ainey and I spent our new year!
Hi Chelsea!!  Look at the puppies!!
This is how big they have grown!
They are all so grateful and loving.
We had a big dilemma here because we didn’t have the heart to take away all the 3 puppies from Chelsea.  She would be so lonely, especially when she is such a good mother (I remember the last time we took the puppies away for an adoption drive, Chelsea hugged every puppy, and she was howling while they were gone).
So, Yi Lin, Ainey and I talked it over, with Samantha as well as their helper (who looks after all the dogs), and after a long discussion, it was decided that we would only take two of them and leave Chelsea with one puppy with the hope that we could find another adopter who would take Chelsea AND one pup.  It was a long shot, but we just did not have any heart to take away all her puppies from her.
Even taking away one puppy was hard enough for us…sigh.

I’m so sorry, Chelsea, but we’re taking your puppies to a good home.
Samantha also felt very sad parting with the puppies.
So it was decided that JT would stay behind with mum.  According to Yi Lin, JT is Chelsea’s favourite child.
Saying goodbye to Stevie.
JT saying bye bye to his brother….gosh, this was so heartbreaking.
Yi Lin saying bye bye.
Timothy, too.
I promised Yi Lin I would do my best to talk to Kanthan, and persuade him to take Chelsea and JT as well.  It broke all our hearts today, having to separate Stevie and Lamps from Chelsea and JT.  After we got Stevie and Lamps into the car, JT and Chelsea scratched at the gate.  And soon after, JT went into the cage and lay down by himself.  I told Yi Lin to go in and distract Chelsea and JT while we drove off.
Yes, Ainey and I felt horrible, but we had no choice.
We arrived in Batang Berjuntai after about an hour’s drive.  Kanthan came to meet us and directed us to his house.  He lives in a single-storeyed bungalow in a dog-friendly neighbourhood in a suburban area.  My first question was: Are there any dog-catchers here?  He said no.  Phew…that’s a relief!

Kanthan and his wife, Revathi, with Stevie and Lamps.  They both love dogs, and currently have two other dogs.
Kanthan had even bought three new collars, in preparation of the three puppies we would be bringing.
I explained to Kanthan that we could not leave Chelsea with no puppy because she was crying.  Upon hearing this, Kanthan said he would adopt Chelsea and JT as well.  He asked Revathi (because she would be the one at home all the time, looking after all the dogs), and she immediately said yes.
Gosh…this was a dream come true.
Heaven is shining on us, on Chelsea and her puppies.  Yes, 2010 will be a good year (if we make it so!).  Thank you….!!
We told Kanthan and Revathi that it’s best to get Chelsea spayed first.  So, they agreed.  In about 4-5 days after Chelsea’s spaying, we will send Chelsea and JT down (or Kanthan could also come and get them himself).
The two boys exploring their new home.  We told Kanthan to get the metal netting for his gate.
Hey boys…have a good life and be good, ok?
We left Batang Berjuntai, very thankful that Kanthan will be taking the whole family.  On the way back, I called Yi Lin to tell her the happy news, and she was very relieved too.  It seems after we left, Chelsea was ok but JT was not – the poor boy missed his brothers terribly and was very sad.
Gosh…wait, JT.  Just a few days more, ok?  We’ll bring you and mum to your brothers and you’d be one big happy family again.
Ahh…now, we’d arrange for Chelsea’s spaying and the happy reunion.
Keeping our fingers crossed….
[Jan 2: It was too good to be true, Kanthan just called to say his mother says two puppies is already a handful for them, so he won’t be able to take Chelsea and JT.  We’ll just have to go to Plan B now.]
