On 30th December, Mandy and her family helped rescue another four puppies from the pound and these puppies were handed over to MDDB.
Taking the trip to freedom and safety, on grandma’s lap.
Rub-a-dub-dub! This is Mandy’s brother.
Aunty Eliza (Mandy’s mum) with one of the lucky puppies.
All the four puppies were tested negative for distemper but two were down with parvo, and one with corona. They are currently being treated, and MDDB is taking care of them.
Mandy also helped deliver kibbles, pails and food bowls, courtesy of MDDB, to the pound. And this is what she saw. I think the photos speak for themselves.
Please take a look…
The dogs at this pound are not provided with food except for discarded bread. We were told there is no budget for this purpose since they would be euthanised within a week. I have written many appeals asking the public to donate food or bring cooked food for these dogs. Even prisoners (who have committed crime) on death row get to eat. What wrong have these dogs done that they have to starve, and later, be forcibly killed?
I know many people would prefer not to see these photos because it is extremely heart-wrenching. But this is reality, and running away from reality is fooling oneself (“I did not see, therefore I do not know”). Tremendous suffering and injustice are being inflicted on these dogs. What wrong have they done save for being born as dogs? Some have been abandoned. In fact, out of the 59 we rescued two weeks ago, we are convinced the 36 adults were all former pets. Even our vets remarked how friendly they were. They displayed no feral behaviour.
So, there is a real problem here – humans abandon their pets and allow this suffering to exist. Can we collectively do something about this? Education is needed. Spay-Neuter is needed.
We already have a panel vet in Klang and Mandy is our rep. Contact Mandy at mandy.csh@gmail.com or me at chankahyein@gmail.com if you’d like to participate in our CNRM in Klang.
There are more dogs to be rescued every day, and we don’t have the capacity to do it now because we don’t have the resources anymore. We have “rehomed” 36 in LLLP, brought back 8 for treatment. Some have been adopted from LLLP. But LLLP simply cannot accept anymore dogs now. They can’t cope.
We therefore urge every individual to help in whatever ways possible.
1. The dogs at the pound need food on a daily basis.
2. Pet owners – please ensure your pets (especially dogs) do not leave your house compound. If possible, please keep them indoors to ensure their safety. Your pets cannot be taken away from you if they are within your house compound.
3. Pet owners – PLEASE do not abandon your pets. If you really cannot look after them anymore, it is your responsibility to find a good and safe home for them. Would you abandon your child?
4. Animal-lovers – please join us in CNRM. Neutering is the long-term solution to this problem.
Whatever is happening in Klang now (the rampage to rid the town of stray dogs) can happen elsewhere once the population of strays go out of control and people complain.
When the Ketam tragedy happened, I have already predicted it will happen elsewhere. It is now happening in Klang, albeit in a different manner. The bottom line is the dogs are being killed.
They have done no wrong.
Please spread the message of kindness to animals as widely as possible. Be an example to others. Do what you know is right. When others see, they will learn.
We prefer to (still) believe there is goodness in humans. It is just jaded in some.
