What we learnt about Thailand, the Thais and Thai dogs

Kwai Chee, with “Cherry Eye”.
(Cherry Eye is a Sharpay mix rescued by Kwai Chee.  Cherry has a small growth in one eye and PAWS will be doing the surgery to remove this growth.)

Kwai Chee, as you know, hails from Thailand.  Today, we learnt something from her.

This is what she told us:

In Thailand, euthanasia and killing of stray dogs and cats is NOT allowed.  TNR is practised and stray animals are spayed-neutered and released back in the streets.  The people are very kind to animals and do not mind their presence.  If ever people do not want their pets, they rehome the pets in the many Buddhist temples in Thailand.  At the temples, the monks only eat one meal per day, so they feed all their left-over food (given as alms from the people) to the dogs.  The dogs are very well looked-after at the temples.  But people seldom abandon their pets, anyway.  The Thais love animals and take very good care of them.
