Yesterday, after we left Sweetie and Perky with Meiling, we thought all would be well. Finally, the two girls are adopted, by one person, too. How lucky!
However, all was not well. Meiling noticed a few drips of blood from Sweetie’s private part. We had not noticed this at all previously, even after Sweetie’s stay at the vet’s. Meiling thought perhaps it was due to the fight between Perky and Sweetie. Little Perky was a little protective over her food, and she fought with Sweetie.
So, today, we advised Meiling to take Sweetie to Dr Edmund for a check-up.
It turned out that Sweetie has early stage of TVT (transmissible venereal tumour). It is treatable by chemo jabs and antibiotics.
I just got off the phone with Dr Edmund and another one of our panel vets, and both concur that it is absolutely treatable. Dr Edmund said it was quite hard to detect the TVT because it’s in a very early stage. Sweetie (before she was captured, or while at the pound) could have mated with a male dog who had the TVT and it was transmitted to her.
We told Meiling we will fund the entire treatment for Sweetie. Dr Edmund says Sweetie needs a maximum of 4 jabs only, and sometimes, it shrinks and disappears after 2 or 3 jabs.
Meiling says Sweetie is an incredibly obedient dog. She follows Meiling all around the house and plays quietly by herself. Perky, on the other hand, is a little boisterous.
Well, I guess they are living up to their names!
We hope Sweetie will recover very quickly. TVT is treatable and curable.
