Jackie is not blind??

Yi Lin rang me this afternoon to say that Chelsea had ripped the plastic containing Jackie’s antifungal medication, so I said I would get her more supplies.

Jackie is the blind dog that we had rescued from the pound.  She had undergone an eye innucleation (the left eye was severely injured and could not be saved).  The right eye was completely cloudy and two vets said even this eye was already blind.

Chelsea is the mum-dog we had rescued from LLLP in Bentong when she had just delivered her litter of 5 puppies and was sick.  Yi Lin fostered the entire family for us, and the 5 puppies have now been adopted.  Yi Lin’s family has adopted Chelsea.

In my phone conversation with Yi Lin, she told me that Jackie’s supposedly blind eye has improved a lot and is no longer cloudy.  That’s great news!  And Yi Lin even said that Jackie may not be blind after all because she seemed to be able to navigate herself very well around the garden.  Also, she gets very excited and greets them when they come home every day.

So, after coming back from Puchong, I went straight to get the antifungal medication and headed for Yi Lin’s house.

Hello, everyone.  It’s Chief, Chelsea and Happy.
Here’s Jackie.  She nudged my leg and seemed very happy to see me.  Dogs are always eternally grateful.  They never forget.
Hey, Jackie!  You’re looking good…
Jackie definitely looked much, much better now.  And as Yi Lin had told me, the cloudy eye also looks much clearer now.  Jackie has also definitely put on some weight too.
I spoke to Tumi, Yi Lin’s Indonesian helper, and she too said Jackie can now manage the steps and she doesn’t seem blind anymore.  Perhaps it’s familiarity to the place, or maybe, her eye is clearing up, after all.  You’ll never know how much difference some tender loving care can do.
Tumi did not want me to take her photograph, but I insisted.
Here’s the ever-so-compassionate Tumi.  She is the one looking after all the pets in Yi Lin’s house, including Chelsea and her puppies.
As I left, the happy trio said goodbye – Chief, Happy and Chelsea.
Jackie is being fostered by Yi Lin’s family now.  She is up for adoption.  Yi Lin adores her completely and says she is a very loving dog.  Now, we are not too sure if Jackie is actually blind.  She may not be, after all.  But even if she is, she has proven that with time, she is able to cope very well with her surroundings (our vet had told us she would).
We want to thank Yi Lin and her family (including Tumi, of course) for taking in Jackie and helping us nurse her back to health.
Love heals.  It always does.
It is amazing how much better our rescued animals do when they are being fostered in a home as compared to being boarded at the clinic.  The healing human touch and the home environment make such a big difference to the rate of recovery and wellbeing of the animal.
We are presently still looking for fosterers for Wendy and later, PJay.  Sweetie, by the way, has recovered from diarrhoea now, and is doing well.  We already have a fosterer waiting to take her in when Dr Edmund says she is ready to be fostered.  Pjay seems ok but is still not using his leg.  Dr Edmund says he may need to put him under anaestesia and open up to check the metal plate that has been inserted to repair his fractured femur.
We need a fosterer for Wendy.  The human touch and that feel of belonging would really help Wendy heal much better.  She has already gone this far.  She just needs that little bit more to take her on the road to recovery.
