Such is the real world out there where strays have to fend for themselves even although we humans try our best to look after them.
Braveheart was a kitten when rescued, along with sister, Courage. But there were no adopters for them, so the rescuer decided to return them to the colony and continue managing them by keeping an eye out for them. We sponsored their spaying and medical treatments.
Sometime last week, her feeders discovered that Braveheart had a wound and she brought her to our panel clinic for an examination. It was suspected to be caused by a dogbite.
We sponsored Braveheart’s treatment and she is now being fostered until full recovery, after which she will again return to the colony unless someone adopts her.
It is not easy to rehome cats or even kittens. Some cats just do not have the luck of finding a home. Most of us cannot take in anymore as our resources and capacity are limited, especially with neighbours who complain and cannot tolerate animals.
So, while it’s a jungle in the real jungle, sometimes it is also a jungle in our urban, so-called civilised concrete jungle.
Ultimately, it all boils down to the survival of the fittest – the Law of the Jungle.
