The 3 Selayang puppies – the heroes!

The last remaining Selayang Pound puppies that we helped rescued out of the pound, and got treated, are currently still currently boarding at Healing Rooms.  MDDB, who has taken charge of them, is looking for adopters for all three of them.

I visited them today, and my, my, my…..they have grown, and are looking well.  I spoke to our vet and he says they are all doing fine, and are in fact, very good-natured too.

I’ll do a before-after “album” here…

BEFORE:

On behalf of MDDB, we rescued 23 puppies out of the Selayang Pound in February, 2010.  Nine appeared to be sickly, so these were brought to the vet’s immediately for a check-up.

Ms Husky was absolutely and totally infested with ticks, and I spent about two hours picking out hundreds of ticks from her while waiting for the vet to check the nine sickly puppies.  She also sat on my lap throughout the journey from Selayang to Subang Jaya because the other puppies were quite aggressive towards her.

Ms Husky, after being Frontlined that evening.  She was the first to be examined.
We called this one Snappy White because he was the snappiest of them all.  He had a slight temperature.  He had to be muzzled because he snapped at the vets.  Soon after, Snappy became so decent, I had to rename him “Senior White” (“senior” because only three puppies were older than the rest of the babies).
Forrest was not one of the nine brought in to the vet’s on the evening of the rescue as he did not appear to be sick.  It was actually by chance that I managed to save his life.  My student had offered to foster him, and I had brought him to his house, but after a few hours, he had diarrhoea, so I hurried over to take him to the vet’s.  On the way to the vet’s, I met with a very nasty car accident where an old man crashed into my car from a side road.  It was a very loud crash, and luckily little Forrest was safe inside the carrier on the passenger seat.  I remember Forrest screamed out loud.  Some thugs came out immediately and wanted to fleece me by “offering help”.  I managed to rush Forrest to the vet’s before spending hours at the police station that evening!
After that, it was daily visiting of the sick Selayang dogs at our panel vet.  Forrest won everyone’s heart because he was so, so tiny and adorable, and he had a way of seeking attention.  His life was hanging by a thread for at least 2 weeks.  Every day, I would enter the clinic with trepidation expecting to hear bad news, but was so relieved to hear that Forrest was still hanging on.  He was fighting the deadly distemper virus.
So many of the puppies passed away despite us giving them all possible treatment.  It was either tick fever, distemper, or some other illnesses, which they had probably picked up from the street or from the pound.  Most of them were barely 1 month old.  They were all babies.
May those who have passed away know they were cared for till the very end.  May they be in a better existence now.
And now…
AFTER:
Today, after more than 2 months, here are Ms Husky, Senior White and little Forrest!
Ms Husky had a lingering skin problem for many weeks, but is otherwise healthy.  And very much alive!  Her fur just needs time to grow back.
Senior White – he looks absolutely charming and very handsome, too.  Kissing my hand?  I’m so glad to see you too, Senior White.
And who is this??
Little Forrest?  No….it’s BIG Forrest!  My, my…how he has grown, and still as attention-seeking as ever!
All three are adorable, and would do very well in homes.
If you have no other dog at home, and would like to adopt them, please contact Wani at 019-3576477.  All three are “great heroes” – they survived a terrible storm, being at the pound, and battling through illnesses after illnesses, fighting for their lives.
And they made it…”through the night”.
Take a hero home….they deserve it so, so much.
