Leggy passed away last night.

Leggy was a thin, sickly and elderly cat rescued by Chen in early August. He was brought in for treatment for anaemia and a host of other degenerative diseases. Leggy perked up gradually and was even fit enough to be neutered after that. He regained his appetite and was doing quite well, despite his age.
Two days ago, Leggy went missing, and came back looking very sickly again. A trip to the vet confirmed that his kidneys were in bad shape, and Leggy was immediately put on a 48-hour drip.
Leggy did not make it past the night.
I have been told that animals have the ability to choose when to go. When they know that conditions are no longer favourable for them, they would free themselves from more suffering, and choose to go at a time of their calling.
If this is true, it helps us deal with death a little easier, knowing that the animal has chosen to go on its own free will and it does not have to endure anymore suffering.
Chen gave Leggy lots of love, care and security during the last month of his life. Leggy had a home and he was happy. That makes a world of difference.
