This is a touching story. Farah Adlin Ahmad rescued an injured mother-cat who is about to give birth soon. Farah is looking for a home for this mother-cat and her (soon-to-be) newborn kittens. Here’s Farah’s story:
I live in an apartment in Sunway and I have two cats, I think the smell of my cats attract other strays to my unit because there are always cats hanging around, so I’ve been feeding 2-3 strays daily for the past year, much to the annoyance of other residence ;(.
There is a tame and cute female cat that always waits for me to feed her and I am very fond of her. Last weekend, I saw that she walked with a slight limp. I didn’t have the time to check on her as I was rushing and thought that it was just a minor bump. She is heavily pregnant by the way. 2 days ago, the limp was more pronounced to a point that her back right leg cannot touch the ground. It broke my heart to see her limping towards me with so much effort just so that she could say hello.
I decided to bring her to my vet so I took her in and put her in the cage. My cats were very agitated and the female cat was scared, by then I called her “Mimi”. I have to separate my cats in other room (I usually let them roam free in my apartment) and the next day I went to the vet.
The vet sent Mimi for x-ray and this is the reason why I am writing to you. The vet said that she needs a major surgery because her hind leg is out of the socket, but she cannot go through the surgery now since she is pregnant. He also mentioned that there is a possibility that she might not be able to deliver her kittens (3 of them in the x-ray!) as there might be complication from the fracture.
I don’t know how far along is she so for the time being, I board her at the vet so that they could monitor her. But the vet suggests doing the surgery once she delivers the kittens (hopefully she can do it normally). But she will need to be caged for a month for recovery.
I am concerned about the kittens, they needed their mother’s milk. At the same time, I cannot commit myself to take care of additional pets because my cats are very hostile and second, I work long hours and cannot focus on Mimi’s needs. I know it sounds like an excuse but it is the truth.
Do you think that after the surgery I can send them to SPCA or find adopters? I hope to find a home where they could adopt all of them but it might be hard to find such home. I don’t mind sponsoring her for the surgery but I cannot foster or adopt her. I am moving to a new place at the end of this month and it breaks my heart to just release her and her kittens to the old place because it’ll be hard for them to find food.
I enclosed a picture of Mimi, she is so adorable and very time, when I was cleaning her ears, she only made a face but never even once she use her claws on me. She is very filthy and full of fleas, but for the time being, I asked the vet to give her flea medication.
I am writing to you to share her story, everyone thinks I am nuts trying to save a stray and incurring the high costs, but what can I do? She’s obviously in pain and the thought of her coping with the pain for the few days that I neglected her made me sad.
