Here’s some updates (reproduced without editing) from Farah Adlin Ahmad. Farah rescued Mimi when she first wrote to me, and now, she is looking after 4 cats. She did not ask us for any financial help even though I offered, she only asked for our prayers:
I just want to update on Mimi. After my last update, the vet informed me that they had to conduct an emergency operation since Mimi’s placenta is still inside her womb and started to be infected. So the vet carried out the surgery and spayed her too. After that I was informed that the vet can only operate her hind leg 10 days after the surgery because they need he wound to close properly before they operate on her again.
Meanwhile, at my house, I noticed a famished looking kitten (well she is a medium sized kitten) who refused to eat the cat food I left outside and seem determined to enter into my house. Many times due to sympathy I let her in only to put her outside again cause she’s full of fleas and was very filthy. To my surprise, my two cats seems okay with her, they didn’t hiss or growl near her, maybe because she’s still a baby and posed no threat to them.
One night, something weird happened, while I was watching TV at around 1 am, I heard faint mewling. I ignored it, few minutes later, the little kitten was WALKING in front of me in the house. Gobsmacked, I open my door and she quickly left, I brushed it aside by comforting myself that she must have wandered in when I opened my door earlier.
Then few nights after that, I heard that faint mewling again. This time, my cats were intrigued and went to investigate and I also looked for the source. What came next was a complete surprise. The little kitten climbed my neighbour’s windowsill and was perched and ready to jump into my unit, the problem was, I am on the 4th floor and any mistake may be fatal. I enticed her with wet food and she went crazy. After around 5 minutes, I finally gained her trust as she allowed me to pick her up (gasp!) into safety. From then on, I know I have to do something. I am moving to a new place in a few days and if she did this act again she might jump into an empty apartment and find herself stuck in there with no food/water.
I bathed her, I cannot imagine such a tiny and bony thing had like 100 fleas on her, I am not exaggerating, since she is a shorthaired cat, it is easy to spot the fleas! Despite being cold, she silently sat on my lap whilst I was busy drowning the fleas. That night she slept peacefully. One problem though, she refused to be potty trained. The house stank of her excrement. I told her that if she did not get her act together I will not allow her to sleep inside. To my surprise, I came home the next day and saw that she pooped in the litter box but she refused to cover it up! I went and bough a pink collar, that night I realised something, all along the little kitten is a “he”! Too bad then, he is sticking with the pink collar!
I moved to my new place with 3 cats as Mimi is still at the clinic. On the first day I opened the window and the cats happily looked outside. Although I now live on the 1st floor, I gather that it is still high enough and they would not attempt to jump. Boy was I wrong! The little kitten whom I christened “Meow” (I refused to give him any other name because I am afraid that I will form an unbreakable bond) went missing! I went looking for him but cannot locate him, then, on the 3rd day, I saw him waiting patiently for me at the staircase! He is still keeping mum on escapade though.
That is the story on how I am in care of 4 cats I brought Mimi home at last, she needs to be on cage rest for a month, she is so sweet she eats her pills without a fight but she cannot tolerate the other cats as for Meow, the little fella is growing, he is no longer bony for one! Did I mention that he will sleep with me and make sure that his body is near me? I cannot keep count how many times I accidentally kicked him but it does not faze him a bit!
My friend agreed to take Meow and Mimi since I cannot cope caring for too many cats. Initially I went around asking for shelter and thank god she came into the picture. I loved them to bits but I cannot take on such responsibility. I will be sad when Meow is gone and secretly hoping that my friend would delay it for another week or two, but I must face it.
I want to thank you for the prayers and the kind thoughts, here are several pictures of Meow and Mimi:
