Countess’ surgery (spaying and amputation of the maggot-eaten arm) was uneventful and hence, successful. We were initially worried about her marginal bloodwork, but after being perked up for two days on rice and eggs, our vet felt she was ready for the surgery.
In fact, the first thing she did when she woke up from the anaestesia was to pull out the drip! Strong girl! However, in the course of performing the surgery, the vet could tell that Countess is not very healthy. This is probably due to her being undernourished before she was rescued.
Countess is recovering well now and is eating on her own. She can already be discharged today but Roselin and her friends prefer to take her home only on Tuesday as her compression bandage needs to be changed once more.
The vet did not put an e-collar on her because Countess appears to be nervous. The e-collar would add her nervousness and stress. The suture for the spaying is internal (no danger of being bitten off) while the suture for the amputation is external (and is bandaged).
I have assured Roselin we will sponsor the cost of Countess’ surgery.
Next, upon full recovery, we’ll need everyone’s help to get Countess and her puppies adopted.
