This afternoon, Mary and I spent some time accompanying Mary’s colleague at the clinic. The colleague’s cat is suffering from end-stage kidney failure. There seems to be little that allopathic medicine can do for a cat at this stage of kidney failure except to put him on drips and to force-feed.
There are numerous causes of kidney failure. Too many to list down. But some of the signs would be excessive intake of water and weight loss.
This cat used to be obese, but began losing weight quite drastically for the last few months. He did not show any other symptoms except for the weight loss.
Never take weight loss lightly. Bring your cat to the vet for a check-up.
Mary and I were there for quite some time as the owner had also been literally “camping” at the vet’s ever since the cat was admitted. It’s three days of drips, after which, the cat could probably go home. Mary brought Echinacea and I brought Noni Enzyme. We thought since nothing else can be done, perhaps these supplements can help since they help humans too. We brought the bottles in their original containers with the ingredients list so that the vet could read and determine if it is suitable for the cat.
We hope the cat will be comfortable and is not in pain. He did not seem to be in pain, though, and that is a consolation. He was sleeping most of the time. The presence of the owner makes a big difference. Our pets would always want us near when they need the emotional support.
