Here’s a beautiful sharing by one of our readers:
I’m glad to note that Bobby is doing fine and eating well. He seems to pick up his younger days habit of rodeo horsey jig. That is great – that’s means he felt well enough to feel playful.
Bobby reminds me of Spoty Hachiko – he came to us after being abandoned by his owner(s) we suspect after he got sick – he has kidney problems, We were doing a little renovation to our place and he came and assigned himself as my personal bodyguard; we took him to the vet and got him fixed and that was when we discovered his illness. He followed me everywhere when the contractors were doing their works as if protecting me from strangers. Months that followed he got weaker and weaker. There were many frequent visits to the vet for his fluid therapy.
Actually my alone time with him was really special. The car ride and waiting time – it was the time I actually connect with other sick pet owners and caregivers at the vet. I get to know many people because of him. Strangers were rooting for him. He loves the vet assistants and very loving towards them and always nudging his head to them when he is in therapy as if thanking them.
My alone time with him which I treasured the most I gave him a lot of massages and pets him all the time. It got on almost 8 months and since he was especially close to my hubby and sleeps on top of him at nights when he got really ill. The day he died in his skeletal form he walked all the way from upstairs to the front door waiting for us to come home. I came home first and called hubby to come as soon as he can. As soon as hubby came and hold him he passed on. Strangely I seemed to be at peace as I have many wonderful loving and caring moments with him before he go (even when he was ill). It taught me ‘it was really the journey not the destination’.
I wish you and Bobby have a wonderful journey together. It is going to be a sweet journey although challenging but when the time comes whenever it is; your heart will be filled the warmth of Bobby’s love and affections that you will carry with you for the rest of your life – just like I felt with Spoty Hachiko – he was named that as he was very loyal prince (meaning in Japanese) just like the story of the loyal dog Hachiko.
