Medical subsidy for Mitz Pots (now RIP) (Rolida @ Intan Shahar’s)

We have subsdised RM372.75 for the medical treatment for Mitz Pots. This subsidy comes from all donors through our Medical Fund (RM172.75) and Berjaya Cares (RM200).

There were two bills for Mitz Pots, one was RM848.50 and an earlier one was RM39. Of this amount, we did not subsidise the Advocate (RM22) and 6 days’ boarding (RM120), but we subsidised the hospitalisation (RM281.50).

We wish Mitz Pots a happy life in her new existence now.

Subject: Miz Pots, Tuah & Happy: Application for medication and vaccination subsidy
To: chankahyein@gmail.com

Dear AnimalCare,

My name is Rolida @ Intan binti Shahar. I was introduced to you by a friend last Thursday, 25.07.2013 when I was in dilemma about high medication costs I had to pay for a stray cat I rescued. She recommended me to apply from you for a subsidy to ease the burden of the bills I had paid.

Here’s my story. On Sunday, 28.04.2013 I rescued a stray cat with 4 kittens. I named them Miz Pots (the mother), Pepper, Tony, Tuah and Happy. Miz Pots was dewormed, given supplement for hair growth and Malaseb, a medicated shampoo for the skin, whilst the kittens were given eyes and flu medications.

The kittens are now 3 months old. Pepper and Tony already been adopted.

Last week soon after Miz Pots stopped milking Tuah and Happy she became weak and ate less. I brought her to vet on Wednesday, 17.07.2013 for check up. As she had weird sneezing sound and breathing from abdomen, the vet gave her some medications. It cost RM39.

But she became weaker. I brought her for check up again on Friday, 19.07.2013. She was hospitalized for treatment with stronger antibiotic by injection on daily basis for 3 days, scan and full blood test. Scan showed all in good order except unusual large ‘hati’. Whilst blood test showed high level of white blood cells and something wrong with red blood cells. On Sunday, 21.07.2013 her back legs suddenly became limp, thus she unable to stand and wobbly. The vet put her on drips and nerve medication. The vet did toxo and FIP tests on Monday which both showed negative results. On Wednesday, 24.07.2013, she had very bad seizure thus, was given seizure medication to relax her body. As the total cost was already very high I discharged her on Thursday, 25.07.2013. It cost RM848.50 (receipt and pictures enclosed).

Your kind consideration and assistance is much appreciated.

Regards,

Intan

We received Intan’s application yesterday and we wrote to her for the latest photos and an update on Mitz Pots. This morning, we called Intan and was told Mitz Pots had already passed on the very day the first email was sent to us. We asked if Intan could please send a written update, and if possible, a last photo of Mitz Pots before she passed on, if she has one. Below is the update from Intan:

Dear Dr. Chan,

Apologise for late reply. Thank you for your email and telephone call, appreciate it.
The pictures I sent to you of Miz Pots were taken on Thursday, 25.07.2013 of which she was given seizure medication. Whilst the other picture (but not so clear) was of her with the kittens after I rescued them on 28.04.2013.
The vet suggested for Miz Pots to continue be hospitalised so they can monitor her condition and give seizure medication whenever necessary. But, apart from the medical bill was blooming and that I do not own a car to commute daily to the vet to visit her, I discharged her due to the vet said it was unlikely there’s hope for her to recover. I wanted her to be home in her last days.
Her seizure was stable when I brought her home. We stayed at my sister’s house for her to take care of Miz Pots when I went to work. But sadly, Miz Pots finally succumbed to her mystery sickness. We buried her at compartment of my sister’s house.
I will email you Miz Pots’ picture before she fell sick later tonight for sharing with the donors.
Your consideration to my application is much appreciated.
Regards,
Intan
