Food Aid to Survivor Shelter

As announced earlier, due to inflation which has led to the rising costs of petfood, chicken and rice, we will try and reach out a little further to help more shelters. But in order to do so, we need to do some fundraising. If you’d like to help feed shelter animals, please write to me at chankahyein@gmail.com for more details. Thank you.

This food aid goes to the dogs at Survivor Shelter in Semenyih, whom we’ve helped once during the MCO in May 2020. Survivor Shelter is founded and run by Ms Ong Siew Hiang. She works as a hawker selling burgers at a foodcourt from 3pm until 4am every day, to earn enough money to cover one worker’s salary at the shelter, the dogs’ upkeep, their food and medical treatment, pet taxi charges to ferry the dogs to and from the clinic and rental for the piece of land.

The shelter currently has 50 dogs, mostly seniors. Most of these dogs were rescued by Ms Ong herself while some were surrendered by people who have ceased to pay for their upkeep. The majority of the dogs have been neutered.

Donors: Anonymous donors, Ahmad Amir Kamil, Avant Pet Sdn Bhd, Bunny & friends, Khoo Ming-Yi, Kok Khee Wee, Kwan Pei Kuan, Lee Chooi Wan, NandaLeonie Hong Siew Lan, Robin & family, Tan Lai Fun, Tan Tay Thye, Wan Tai Seng, Wong Chin Kuan, AnimalCare donors (reserve fund).

Many thanks to all donors who made this food aid possible through your generosity.

Food:

Vitalplus dog kibble 18kg
– Lamb – 12 bags
– Salmon – 12 bags

Simba dog kibble 20kg (from Monge)
– Beef – 5 bags

We thank Avant Pet for the free delivery to the shelter which is located in a rather remote area. Many thanks to the kind visitor who helped transport the food in in his car as the lorry could not access the dirt road.

We ordered 30 bags but there was only stock for 29 bags. So, 29 bags were delivered, as confirmed by Ms Ong.

Below, photos sent by Avant Pet’s drivers after delivery:
