On 24th February this month, we increased our maximum Neutering Aid rates to the following:
Maximum for dog neutering: RM200
Maximum for cat neutering: RM120
It’s been very, very sad, as always, to learn of the fate of street dogs over the last two months or so. We hope that by increasing our Neutering Aid rates, it will encourage feeders to get more of their street animals neutered. Indeed, neutering is the most compassionate way to control the street population.
And it is actually not an opportune time to increase our rates. It is not that our donations have increased. In fact, it hasn’t at all. It has actually decreased (just take a look at our donor list each month). But we will dig into our reserves for this because there really is an urgent need to get street animals neutered. And for well-wishers who do have some spare cash, we would deeply appreciate your contributions.
We are currently working with feeders in a specific area in Selangor where there are many colonies of unneutered dogs. The challenge is in getting the feeders to agree to neutering. Some are only interested in feeding and it stops there. Well, it should not stop there. Feeding is good. Feeding is kind. But let’s go that extra mile and get them neutered too. Letting street animals go on breeding is not helping them. Repeated and frequent pregnancies is very unhealthy for the mother-animal. Unneutered animals are also at risk of developing various diseases. There is also the dangers of pyometra and obstructed pregnancies, newborns dying due to the inability of the mother-animal to nurse them, etc.
If we can get the feeders in this specific area to get their street dogs neutered, we foresee a need for more funds to be channeled to this as our primary mission is still to help with the neutering of street animals. The Food Aid was only created as a stop-gap when there were excess funds, so we might need to cut back on this. Recipients of the Food Aid had always been reminded that our aid is not permanent. In fact, no aid is.
At the same time, we have a new Sponsored Shelter – Amy’s Kennel in Kota Bharu. More details will be given once our first Food Aid reaches her. We will also be helping with the neutering of her animals.
Let’s get street animals neutered. It is the kindest method to control the street animal population.
