Getting funds by using unneutered dogs?
We heard this news from the grapevine so it is just hearsay. A certain group of animal feeders has been very reluctant to get their dogs neutered despite much advice and cajoling. Apparently, this group has a chatgroup where new people are roped in and each person is asked to make a sizeable donation to help “feed the dogs”. And of course there would be many photos of these dogs because they are not neutered, hence, the population grows by leaps and bounds. One unneutered dog can give birth up to 12 puppies in one litter, so please do the math.
We do urge everyone to be very discerning with such groups. Whenever it involves street animals, please ensure that neutering is part of the tasks that is being done to help their animals. There is no help if it is only feeding alone. Without neutering, the population will increase exponentially.
In the past too, especially during the MCO, there were appeals from various individuals for our food aid. We did give one such person where we made her promise she would get her cats neutered and we offered our aid. Of course the promise was made, and based on good faith of her word, we sent a batch of food, but she did not follow-up on the neutering at all. Hence, it was just a one-off food aid. No more after that.
It is not that her cats were not deserving of food. They definitely are. But the human caregiver was being irresponsible in not getting her cats neutered and she is asking funds from the public to feed her own cats and the growing population. She also broke her promise to us and that’s not the kind of persons we would want to deal with.
Breaking a promise for no reason is as bad as lying. Actually, it’s even worse when the promise was made just to get something for herself.
Honesty and sincerity are two principles we uphold.
Now, we will not send any food aid unless the requester already practises neutering. Granted, the free roaming street animals may be difficult to catch, but surely the indoor ones can be neutered. And we also understand if there is financial difficulty in neutering all of one’s animals, but surely some would have already been neutered.
