Introducing Josephine Tong Yut Fun (TagTeam member): From neutering aid applicant to TagTeam member

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is with the greatest pleasure and gratitude for me to introduce to you, the third member of the AnimalCare TagTeam: our neutering aid applicant and the lady who has been doing absolutely amazing CNRM-work with dogs, Josephine Tong Yut Fun (she likes to go by JoTong, for short).

For those who might have missed our announcement in October 2022, the AnimalCare TagTeam is a team of trustworthy friends (younger than me) who will take over the running of AnimalCare after I am gone. They are our succession team.

Welcome on board, Jo, and thank you!!

Here is JoTong’s self-introduction:

I recall I started feeding the stray dogs at 2 roads at the place where I worked in Balakong since the MCO started in March 2020. Everyone was working from home and we were not allowed to go back to office, but occasionally I had to curi-curi go back for one or two hours daily as there were some jobs which could not be done at home. This was when I started to notice that the stray dogs came out to the roads to rummage for food as there was nothing to eat at all. Everyone was not allowed to go to office and factories have to stop operations, even the mamak stalls were not open for business. It was a sad sight to look at. This was when I started to cook one full pot of white rice and mix them with dog tin food daily and fed the dogs when I went back to office.

Long story cut short, this was how I came to know Uncle Wong Woi Kan and he had been feeding the stray dogs in the same area for more than 8 years. Initially, we just fed and fed and fed not knowing what else we are capable of doing. Me, being a newbie did not even know what neutering was. Each time I saw a new group of puppies, I just kept cooking more and more rice and buying more and more kibble to feed them.

Then I started to search info from the internet and read about neutering and how it works. I contacted an organisation for advice and help. With Uncle Wong who did most of the catching work as he was literally able to touch most of the dogs that he feeds, I was in charge of ferrying the dogs to the vet and discharging them from the vet. We started to bring in 4 female dogs per week for spaying at the vet’s and we managed to neuter almost 45 dogs.

When I was required to report back to office on alternate days, I had to stop sending the dogs to the vet’s due to work commitments. However, it seems that we still got a bit of luck with us when my boss told me that he would like to donate money for CSR work and I shared with him on what we had been doing. He agreed to sponsor neutering cost for 30 dogs. THANKS BOSS!!

Early last year, I stumbled across AnimalCare and initially I thought the website had already expired and was no longer active. However, I decided to give it a try and applied for my 1st aid for neutering on 14th July 2022 as the sponsorship from my boss had depleted. I still remember receiving an email reply from Dr Chan on the same day after 11 mins!! To be frank, I could not contain my excitement as I did not have high hopes on my application for the neutering aid from AnimalCare (haha) as I expected I will not receive any reply at all. The rest is history and thanks to the aid from AnimalCare and numerous other donors through AnimalCare, namely Ms Jasmine Ee, Mr Kok, Mdm Mong, Avant Pet and many, many more, we have been able to neuter a further 51 dogs as of to date.

I hope that Malaysia will become a safer place for all the furry kids in the future and I believe we should start from educating our younger generations by cultivating kindness at home and crucially at school.

These are 3 happy doggies who greet me every morning when I step out of my car at my workplace!
