Survivor Shelter, founded and run by Ms Ong Siew Hiang, is currently the only shelter with animals under our Sponsored Animals in selected shelter initiative.
Here are this week’s updates:
- WinWin’s blood PCV went up to 26% and this is very good news. WinWin is being treated for IMHA and is one Darbepoetin, steroids and other supplements. But at the same time, WinWin was also recently diagnosed with tick fever. The tick fever treatment has to be put on hold as the IMHA takes priority. WinWin is still under the care of a fosterer and Ms Ong pays for the service and supplies all the food and needs for WinWin.
- Cash and Milky are not eating. Milk has a swollen leg and Cash has a high white blood cell count. Since Ms Ong has to work two jobs to sustain her shelter, the medical treatment of her dogs and also save money to build a new shelter when the landowner takes back this current land next year, she is unable to look after them herself. Ms Ong works from dawn until past midnight every single day. She works at an eatery in the day time and right after that, rushes back to prepare her burgers for her evening burger stall at the cafe. Ms Ong has been asking vet clinics if she could board Cash and Milky for about a week so that they can be treated and we also have been helping her to enquire at various vets, but until now, we have not been able to find one that is affordable for Ms Ong. If you know of any vets who offer affordable boarding for shelter dogs, please do share with us and we will pass the information to Ms Ong. Thank you very much.
- Just a moment ago, Ms Ong was on the way to her shelter with her friend and they spotted a longhaired kitten by the roadside. More about this kitten in the next post.
