Dear Friends,
We are doing a special fundraising for a rescued kitten with a diaphragmatic hernia. The caregivers are Soo Tzan Jian (Nicholas) and Teng Yeeng Xuang (Aline).
The kitten’s name is Nomi.
A friend of AnimalCare alerted us to this case this morning, with a message from Nicholas’ aunt.
Here’s the story….last year my nephew brought home a very homeless kitten. Inexperienced, when he thought it was time to get the cat spayed, it actually got pregnant. Then it gave birth to 3 kittens. They are a few months old now. Few days ago, rainy evening, the naughty kitten tripped, fell from the pillar, fell down hard, on the flower pot. Got hit so hard, like her abdomen dented, she was panting, very bad. My nephew took her to the vet. Took x Ray. Very bad. Diaphragm torn, organs dislocated. Broke some bones. Vet recommended surgery within 2 weeks time, cost around RM 4,000. My nephew just started working, he couldn’t afford it. We could help him a bit. So, we are trying to look for a less expensive vet.
Tonight, we went to see the kitten, poor thing, she was panting all the time, and looked somewhat disfigured, aiyo so poor thing 😢. I decided to look around for a more affordable vet. Please, please help to ask around, and as fast as possible, the poor kitten is suffering.
These X-Ray images and a letter from the vet were shared:
So we contacted three vets to ask for an evaluation and all three said the same: This is a high risk procedure as complications may arise.
Nicholas and Aline decided to proceed to get the surgery done but they needed a vet who could do the surgery. We told them they could chose any vet of their choice and I also contacted my personal vet. Nicholas and Aline decided to consult my vet.
The consultation was this afternoon and this is from Aline:
Nomi was examined by by the vet on May 4th, 2024 and she is scheduled for a surgery on May 7th (10:30am) due to diaphragmatic hernia. The vet suggested to perform the surgery asap or she might possibly collapse from oxygen deficiency.
Nomi will have to go through fasting 6 hours before the surgery. The success rate of the surgery will be 50/50 depending on the condition of the kitten during the surgery. Ventilators will be provided to supply oxygen since the kitten is still young. Should the surgery be successful, the vet advised that the kitten should be hospitalized 1-2 days for monitoring purposes.
Nomi is also advised to be confined to restrict any extreme movements during the recovery for at least 1 month.
The estimated cost of the surgery is between RM2000 – RM3000, depending on the condition of Nomi during the surgery. Nicholas and Aline will cover RM500 and this includes today’s consultation.
