Excerpts:
“Where will the dogs go?”—a question that revealed the heart of Ratan Tata. When N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, expressed a desire to renovate the iconic Bombay House, this was the worry that consumed Tata.
Built in 1924, Bombay House had remained untouched for decades. When Chandrasekaran brought up the renovation idea, Tata’s response was both unexpected and touching: “When you say ‘renovate,’ do you mean ‘vacate’? Where will the dogs go?” His thoughts weren’t on the grandeur of the building but on the stray dogs who had found a home in its sheltering walls.
Chandrasekaran reassured him—a kennel would be built for the dogs, and this seemed to put Tata’s heart at ease. “When the renovation was done, the first thing he wanted to see was the kennel,” Chandrasekaran shared in post.
