Curcumin for cats (by Dr Lianne McLeod)

Here’s the article: https://lolahemp.com/blogs/cat-health/curcumin-for-cats

The conclusion is that it is good for cats, when used in moderation and with consultation with your vet. It is anti-inflammatory, has antioxidants, has anti-cancer properties, supports the immune system and more. It is also good for mouth ulcers in cats and dogs.

For home-prepared curcumin (the golden paste), you might want to cook it with oil and with sprinkles of black pepper to enhance its bioavailabilty. But for supplements, the bioavailability is already enhanced, hence there may not be any necessity for black pepper anymore. But for pets, purchase the pet products for the correct dosage.

Caution to humans: A small percentage of less than 1% of humans may not posssess the enzyme in their liver to metabolise curcumin. For this very small group of people, the curcumin remains in their body and becomes toxic. How to find out if you are one of them? Take a curcumin supplement for 2 months then do a liver function blood test. If it is normal, you are not in that category.
