The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is encouraging responsible pet ownership by offering free dog adoptions from its shelter
“Our Health Department’s Canine Unit takes dogs off the streets and rehomes them through our free adoption initiative,” Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain recently told The Star.
Abd Hamid said MBDK’s dog shelter at Bandar Sultan Suleiman in Port Klang is a safe haven for lost dogs, and adopting these canines would help their efforts and make a big difference to the hundreds of other strays that need a second chance at life.
“Currently, our Canine Unit has rounded up 139 stray dogs as of 18 February. Most of these dogs are friendly and need a caring home and MBDK hopes people will adopt them instead of buying,” he said.

He explained that if the dogs are unclaimed after seven days, they are put up for adoption.
“Efforts are being made to ensure the animal gets a good home and reduce the stray overpopulation,” he said.
He added that the adoption process is simple: once you find a dog you love at the council’s shelter, all you have to do is register your personal details, get the dog vaccinated, and pay RM10 for the dog’s licence tag.
Besides encouraging adoption, MBDK is also offering weekly vaccination programmes at half price, and on-the-spot dog licensing events.
