The 12 dogs, survivors of the distemper outbreak (A bed of thorns, Part 5)

This is the Kawan-and-Hoarder case.

It is about time we looked at this case more positively now that we have talked the lady into the first step of getting the 12 surviving dogs vaccinated.

Her friend sent the photos of the 12 dogs today:

    Dear Dr Chan,

    The dogs really look sad.

I am sending my prayers towards them so they will get the help and care that they deserving need after all they had been through. I am also keeping my prayers that these care-giver(s) will do the right thing.

I am praying that everyone concern will open up their hearts and minds to put the welfare of these dogs above every humans’ pettiness. No more negatives but positives.

I know what you mean, Anon. My heart really went out to these dogs when I saw their photos, especially those that are huddled in a corner. They look very frightened. My first instinct is to send food to them, but after all the feedback received about this lady, we really need to make a visit before offering more help. Whatever help we offer must be channeled to these dogs and her animals. We need to ensure that this happens before extending our help.

Apparently, people who know her have told me that she doesn’t bring the dogs to the vet until they are almost dead. By then, it is always too late to save the dog. And she refused to isolate that one dog with distemper despite being told to do so, so 17 others contracted the disease and died. 18 lives gone, just like that. Could have been prevented if all her existing dogs had been vaccinated, or even isolated. I am not sure what her problem is, but it appears (I may be wrong) it is one of being stubborn, based on what I have been told. We need to visit and gauge further.

Most disturbing picture ever! More like prisoner in a death row with a very tight chain choking their neck! And the Shihzhu…oh Gosh! Tears on my eyes now…

I really don’t know what to make of this because people who know her say her animals are better off dead than with her, because she does not take care of them at all. That is what everyone whom I’ve contacted has told me. It IS very disturbing. I feel very sorry for her dogs (and there are also 30 cats – we do not know the state they are in). My first instinct is to provide food for her animals, but people who know her say she will just keep collecting them off the streets and ask for more food. So, where do you draw the line? In the first place, she doesn’t qualify to get any food from us at all, because she does not fulfil ANY of our criteria. From 12 dogs, now she claims there are 27 dogs, placed in 5 different locations.

I agree Kah Yein, AnimalCare need to assess the whole situation before deciding the next step. Some of the dogs also appear to be having some skin problem, the whole bunch would need a proper medical check-up.

These photos remind me to the Klang Dog Pound. Has this hoarder even been taking care of these poor dogs at all? How on earth did they get to be in this state?

No animal-lover would have allowed her pets to get into such a horrible state. I can see their ribs and many of them seem to have skin diseases. Some look emaciated. I think these pets should be removed from her house. No wonder some people say they are better off dead than to stay on with her.

Be careful of these two people, Dr Chan. I am worried there is more than meets the eye. Why are they collecting animals from the street and not looking after them well? I agree this person does not care of the animals at all. Look at the state they are in. The whole thing sounds too fishy. Be careful of them.
