I’ve been listening to many videos today, on litter box training, mostly by Mr Jackson Galaxy but then I came across this one by Dr Sarah Wooten, a veterinarian. It’s good!
FIE = Feline Inappropriate Elimination
According to Dr Wooten in this video, FIE accounts for 50% of why owners do not want their cats anymore. This means surrendering their cats to shelters which may cost them their lives. Now, that is a scary percentage, isn’t it?

The FOUR main causes of FIE:
- Cat has a medical problem.
- Cat is marking his territory, ie. urine marking.
- Cat is stressed.
- Cat doesn’t like something about the box, ie. litter box aversion (the litter, the location of the box, etc.)
