A special provision of our Medical Aid to be extended to Sponsored Animals in selected shelters

Our TagTeam has unanimously agreed to have a special provision of our Medical Aid to be extended to Sponsored Animals in selected shelters when a need arises. Currently, there is only one shelter under this programme, and that is Survivor Shelter under Ms Ong Siew Hiang.

We have informed Ms Ong that this special provision has been given to WinWin, Cash, Milky and the newly-rescued kitten, Fate.

Ms Ong started this shelter for her own rescues and not for people to surrender their animals. So, all the dogs in the shelter are her own rescues through the years, with a few exceptional cases as a favour to friends. Or friends who “tumpang” and conveniently “forget” to take the animal back (like Indy, in my case). We all know this behaviour only too well, don’t we?

Ms Ong has never asked for donations. She sustains her shelter with her own money, earned by working two jobs now. One is at the eatery in the day time and another is her permanent livelihood, which is her burger stall at Rock Cafe in PSJ11/20, Bandar Sunway.

Ms Ong also did not ask for food aid from us during the MCO (May 2020), but she was recommended to us by a friend and we gave her one consignment. Subsequently, we offered her food aid again in May 2022 and have been helping her ever since.

Sometime before 2020, we once shouted out for dog blood donors and I contacted Ms Ong, through the recommendation of a vet. She was very helpful even though the blood donor arrangement did not work out. What matters to us is that she was helpful.

Survivor Shelter is registered and she built the shelter with her own money. This is more proper than rescuers who keep their many rescued animals crammed up in houses which can run into legal problems.

This special provision of our Medical Aid is given to Survivor Shelter now in view of three of her dogs who need medical treatment urgently. Ms Ong has already spent a lot of money in treating WinWin with weekly visits to the vet.

Ms Ong sells burgers from 4pm until 2am every day at Rock Cafe, PJS11/20, Bandar Sunway, to earn enough to sustain her shelter and look after her 47 dogs. In the morning, she works at another eatery. Kudos to her for all her hard work and effort!
