Updates on ET (from Survivor Shelter)

A little bit of bad news at 2am last night.

ET had very watery diarrhoea.

I only saw the message this morning, and I suggested the following, based on barefoot experience:

  1. Definitely have to take ET to see the vet this morning. May need deworming.
  2. Meanwhile, give only small amounts of boiled chicken (a single protein). Record amount and time given.
  3. Check for dehydration with the pinch test. If dehydrated and not drinking, syringe water.
  4. Take photos, monitor stool consistency with time stamps.

So the whole of last night, ET was walking and mewing nonstop. Ms Ong and Fate could barely sleep. Fate isn’t happy with the intrusion of a new kitten, but perhaps given time, she will accept her. Ms Ong is also worried that the neighbours might complain about the noise as she lives in an apartment.

The good thing is that ET still has very good appetite and keeps asking for food. But this is a Catch-22 situation because she has diarrhoea, and usually, only small amounts of boiled chicken is recommended. Eating too much will aggravate the diarrhoea and is counter-productive to the recovery of the diarrhoea.

ET is also definitely strong and active. Very strong lungs (from the video and audio of her mewing).

ET drinks lots of water on her own, which is good. Upon doing the pinch test, she is not dehydrated.

The stools do not have visible blood in them. Just very watery last night and this morning.

Ms Ong switched to single protein this morning upon my suggestion, using Cindy’s chicken canned food we bought for Fate last time, and good news – the stool consistency quickly improved (please see collage below, which I did for Ms Ong so that she can show the vet).

Last night, Ms Ong gave her canned tuna, which isn’t so suitable when there is diarrhoea. But she switched to canned chicken in small amounts this morning.

The stool consistency is improving and we hope it continues to improve today.

In any case, a visit to the vet’s would help very much.

Ms Ong has a very full day today because the new three-legged dog (three functional legs, that is) will be taken to her shelter today.  She has burger orders as well so she needs to purchase stock and do all the cooking preparations. Another dog, Bright, also needs to be taken to the vet.

We have pledged to help with ET’s medical and food needs as far as we can.

Survivor Shelter (which includes all of Ms Ong’s rescues) is still our one and only Sponsored Shelter. With our limited funds, we can only afford to have one sponsored shelter.
