The dogs in Penang (Devakie’s case) – help needed

As I’ve written in the previous posting last night, I’ve got someone here who can take the 12 dogs, but Devakie and I have discussed it, and it’s better to just get adopters from Penang to take the dogs.  Transportation of the dogs from Penang to Subang will involve a lot of logistics and most importantly, the wellbeing of the dogs would be at stake, what with the possibility of the female dogs being pregnant. 

These poor dogs have been left behind by their owner(s) after they moved away.  The housing area is now being cleared and its residents evacuated in phases to make way for development on the island.  The dogs only have 1-2 months at most, before they can no longer dwell in this place.  We don’t know what the authorities would do to them.  So, Devakie is trying her best to relocate them.  We hope they don’t end up being captured and euthanised. 

According to Devakie, the shelters nearby are all full and they cannot take the dogs in.  The only way I see possible, is to get the dogs adopted in Penang itself.  Devakie said a few people had called, but they only wanted pedigrees.  Sigh…there’s always this misconception that pedigrees are “better” when the truth is, they need not be so.  ANY dog would be able to become a loyal, faithful and grateful companion, if he/she is treated with love and compassion. 

Devakie has been supplying food for the villagers to feed the dogs.  

So, we are now looking for homes for these dogs.  If you know any Penang folks, please forward this link to them and ask them to forward it on to others.
