Today, we started at 7.00am.
Chun Eng arrived with her special banana cake for our sale today.
Hillary Kon (who is going to climb Mt Kinabalu to raise funds for us at the end of this year) also arrived, and together, the three of us set up the booth.
Chun Eng tells this little girl about my books.
Khoo Beng Kai, his wife and mother also came a-visiting.
The mad tshirt sales starts!
This little boy now has a black AnimalCare tshirt and he is happy.
Peace to you too – this is one of our little supporters. Every Wesak and Kathina, our little supporters will faithfully wear our tshirts!
Today, I broke my own “tradition” by not wearing Yellow (it’s Saturday). But this is only because I wanted to promote our Equation design. And also, the message in the Equation is that one unconditional loving-kindness and equality of all beings (humans, animals and plants) – it’s very in line with the spirit of Wesak.
It’s for free? Really??
Yes, the books and the car decals are free. Please help yourself to the books, but please do pass it on after reading.
We also have a box of veggie pow and ang koo today, and everything was sold out before noon.
The Equation girls – Hillary and me.
Children nowadays are so tall – good for them!
I think the little pink-shirted girl finished the book while she was at our booth.
One day, when we are old and grey, hopefully, our young volunteers will take over the baton and run AnimalCare.
Another faithful supporter.
Tan Sri Khalid, Menteri Besar of Selangor, arrived and he wished everyone well. He came round to shake hands with as many people as he could. What a nice and sincere man he is!
Terry dropped in for awhile. Bernice and Donovan came with the “reserve” stock we had loaded into their car yesterday.
Tupperware is beside us. They are donating their proceeds to a Hospice home.
Rescuer Koo and his wife dropped in and bought stuff from us – thank you! Yoke Mei dropped in as well. Many others who dropped in were readers of the blog whom I’ve not met before. It was nice knowing there are so many readers.
Andrew came by as well.
Elaine Chan surprised us by dropping in AND giving us a whole bag of doggie treats to sell!
Thank you so much, Elaine!
We sold out on that as well.
The Equation Friends.
(The oldest is the shortest!)
Our Equation sold very well today. Donovan insists it’s because the four of us “modeled” it well.
Another young model for the Equation.
This is Kean Joo and his little daughter. Kean Joo is the one who got us the artist to do the Equation design. His little daughter has just been “drafted” as our new volunteer (with daddy’s consent). Groom the young, we’re all getting old!
Now, which design would you like?
Parents teaching their children about generosity.
This parent was teaching her daughter as well, and explaining to her that rather than spend the money on candies and all, it’s better to help the stray cats and dogs on the streets. Isn’t that nice?
Another loyal supporter.
Szetoo Weishya (sister of Szetoo Weiwen) came by to help.
No, Hillary is not her sister, but can pass off as one!
Connie Jame visits our booth with her husband.
But by then, our ang koo had already sold out!
And our faithful supporters include the young-at-heart. You can see this tshirt have been well-worn. We started selling tshirs 3 years ago. It’s nice to see a well-worn tshirt. It means people like wearing them.
Bernice became the stock-keeper, and a mighty efficient and meticulous one at that.
Yay, I have a new cute tshirt!
No time to have lunch, so this bowl of cendol provided sufficient energy to last through the long hours. I had a good breakfast from home, so no worries.
And in between selling tshirts, we checked out Bernice’s tattoo. Imprinted for life – “I love cats”.
I remember this nice lady! She bought our tshirt last year. This time, she came by to purchase another 3 pieces, all large sizes, for her friends.
Bernice organised all the stock.
Hillary helped by making the labels more “interesting”.
Like so.
We were on our toes all day. Having a chance to sit down was a luxury. And no, we’re certainly not complaining that so many visited our booth.
The President of the SJBA came by and bought tshirts for his daughters.
This Wesak, we only packed up after 4.00pm.
It had been a very long day, but we all had lots of fun.
We’d like to thank all visitors very much for supporting our work. We are extremely grateful.
This is the best sales ever, in our 3 years.
Stock-checking right after the event. I have two trusty volunteers.
Baggy has settled in very well now.
It’s been such a good, good day today.
And yes, there was light in our hearts today!
It was such a joy being able to do something for the animals today, to share our work and message with so many people.
My personal thanks go to all our volunteers for today (in no particular order): Chun Eng, Hillary, Bernice, Donovan, Andrew, Terry, Weishya, and Winnie also dropped in towards the end, not forgetting yesterday’s volunteers: Weiwen, George and Winnie.
P.S. I don’t remember my legs aching even after the Bersih 3.0 rally, but today, my legs ached. But, I am certainly NOT complaining. The joy and fun from today’s event make up for all these small discomforts.
P.P.S. Perhaps for me, a poignant moment today was when a certain rescuer whom I’ve had a most unpleasant experience with recently dropped by our booth, and I wished her well, we hugged and made up, and all is forgiven. What better time than to forgive and move on than on an auspicious day like this. Life is short, folks. Bad vibes are unhealthy. When we forgive and move on, we are doing ourselves a huge favour!

Syabas …. life is but a short journey, so savour the Moment & move on!!
Dear Sis,May All Be Well N Happy.
Great to know the sales and day went well. Looking at how hard you guys work to raise funds (missing meals, free labour and all), shame to those who take advantage especially other rescue groups. Anyhow, have a great weekend ahead or what’s left of it :)!
You have me as your reader and supporter wearing animalcare t-shirt in Sarawak too^^’
Wow! Thank you, Raymond!!
