Tara’s TVT jabs

Do you remember Tara?  She was one of the 36 dogs we rescued from the Klang Dog Pound in December 2009 and was diagnosed with distemper.  We brought her back from Bentong, got her treated (she was hospitalised, on the drip), my mother fostered her for some months before we got her adopted by Annee’s family.

Photo flashback:

Feeding Tara her medicines when she was first rescued.

My mother, Annee, her son, and Tara.
Tara lives in a Semi-D with a big garden to run about.
Annee’s daughter, Jennifer, with Tara.
Jennifer brought her to the temple for a visit.  She loves Tara to bits and they go on long walks and runs together as Jennifer is a runner.

Tara, as friendly and happy as ever.
She’s wearing the Pokemon suit Jennifer bought from Taiwan.
All was well with Tara until recently when she started bleeding.  Annee took her to her neighbourhood vet and the vet said Tara’s spaying had not been done properly.  He suggested redoing the spaying.
When Annee informed me, I suggested a second opinion at our vet’s.  To cut a long story short, it wasn’t due to a botched spaying, but TVT.  The TVT was also very difficult to diagnosed (needed a vaginoscopy) because it was not visible from the outside.  It was rather strange too, as symptoms of the TVT only manifested after one whole year.  Normally the symptoms show quite fast.
The vet advised that Tara undergo chemo jabs as this is the most effective way to treat TVT.  Tara had her first jab two weeks ago, and one more this week.  There will be two more jabs.  After the first jab, it took Tara about 2 days to regain her appetite.  She was able to cope better after this week’s jab.  Annee says she is fine and as perky as ever this round.
We are all looking forward to Tara’s full recovery after the 4 jabs.
Here’s a photo from Annee, taken yesterday:
Hey, Tara, you spunky little girl…get well soon, ok?
We felt that Tara’s TVT was probably contracted from the pound.  After living with Annee, Tara has never had any contact with any other dog.  However, the vet was also puzzled as to why it took such a long time for the TVT to manifest.
Will update on Tara’s progress after she has completed the treatment.
