The fund-raising luncheon at EcoGreen (organised by Agnes Cheong)

Today, we had a lovely luncheon at EcoGreen Organic Cafe in Taman Tun.  The event was organised by Agnes Cheong and her friends, Yuen Foon, Sumitra, Lay Chin, Angeline and Cassie, to raise funds for AnimalCare.

We wish to thank everyone who graced with event with their presence, their participation and their generous contributions. The crowd was very warm and friendly and this made the event a very memorable one.

Our grateful thanks go to Agnes and her friends for all their hard work and efforts at organising this event. We had a total of 79 diners today. While numbers do matter, it was the warmth, support and encouragement from everyone who made the event very special and meaningful. We are deeply touched and we thank everyone for this.

My personal thanks to our volunteers for today – Chun Eng, Mary, Winnie, Bernice and Donovan for taking their Sunday off to help out with the tshirt sales and everything else.

Here are some photos:

The ambience was one of simplicity and elegance, which was perfect.

Ven Sonam, a nun from Bhutan, and Ven Choedron, a local nun, also graced the event.

 Our volunteers for the day.

Edward, the manager of PAWS, our guest for the day.

The food was scrumptious and delightful, one of the very best I’ve ever tasted.

Here’s Lydia and her husband, Peter; Cassie and her brother, Matthew; and fellow animal caregivers.

Hard at work all the way – Sumitra and Agnes.

 Mary, Bernice and Donovan.

A little talk to let the audience know how their donations will be used.

AnimalCare has a Medical Fund, a Food Fund and an Education Fund – we concentrate on these three areas in helping the animals and their caregivers.

Edward was invited to talk about adoption of street animals from the shelter.

In helping street animals, we all have to work together. Every organisation and individual has a role to play.

Venerable Choedron asking a question. The two Venerables are also animal rescuers. I’m particularly touched that they have so graciously helped me distribute my books to many parts of the world!

Agnes announcing the final collection for the day.

Thank you very much, Agnes and friends.

And our chef de cuisine for the afternoon, Sherene, who also owns EcoGreen Cafe. This place at Bakti is only for catered functions. Sherene has another outlet in Jln Aminuddin Baki in Taman Tun. Do visit for your non-meat days! Or, if you fancy meat, they also have fish and chicken.

Thank you very much for taking your Sunday off to participate in today’s event.

I loved this event. It was small, meaningful and eventful. I would like to quote Lydia…”We come to soak up some some of the positive animal loving vibes..” 🙂 How true it was.

Always happy to see you too Dr. Chan 🙂
