I received this S.O.S. from Noor Ashikin, from Penang. Ashikin is a teacher in Penang and she says many people have been dumping cats and kittens at her school canteen. Together with the canteen operator, she has been helping out to feed these cats and kittens, and look after them.
Ashikin wants to get the cats spayed and neutered, but the cost of the surgery is very high over in Penang and she has not been able to find a vet who would be willing to give a discount for strays.
If you live in Penang, and you know of any vet who can give a discounted rate for stray animals, could you please contact Ashikin directly at ashikin.nasir@gmail.com or text her at 0194185414.
Ashikin currently has 12 cats and kittens to rehome. Below is the photograph of Coklat and one of her kittens.

Many thanks to Joe Ng and Joo Gyee for responding so quickly to Ashikin's S.O.S.
I was asking out some friends after reading this yesterday but no one knows anything. Glad that someone has responded! I'm in Penang too and would love to know where we can do this in Pg!
Dear Huey,
These are the contacts given to Ashikin:
Hope Veterinary Centre

Another alternative is the government vet clinic.
Oh I think I've seen Hope Veterinary Centre before! Thanks for the contacts!
I've tried SPCA before. No success. They just diverted me to a few vets and asked me to choose whichever I want.
Hey I was wondering If I could adopt it???
Please contact Ashikin directly at the hp given in the posting.
Hi, I'm an expat living on the mainland. I have my own dog and a cat (both adopted). I just phoned Hope Vet Clinic and asked if they give a discount for spaying and neutering and the woman who answered the phone said no. I'm really appalled at the Vets here in the Penang region. They either don't care or … I don't know. Just don't like them. I ended up taking my dog to a vet in KL to get her eye checked, not because the vet is a specialist but because the vet's up here (on the mainland and Penang) just DON'T CARE! Ironically the vet I took my dog to went to university with Dr Josh of Hope Clinic and recommended him. Meanwhile, I have a stray puppy that I found under my car this week that needs treatment, a stray male cat and two pregnant stray female cats and one stray street dog that need attention. The street dog, female, has AWFUL skin. She's constantly scratching at herself and making herself bleed. I really need veterinary assistance. Feeling VERY FRUSTRATED! ;;((
I empathise with your frustrations. You'll just have to source for a vet who can help you. Sorry I'm so far away and I can't help you out. I'll contact some of my friends in Penang and see if they can help.
I have an 17-yr old dog who is blind. I want to put him out of his misery. How much does the Penang Vet at Jln Gudjwara charge for the service?
Dear Mr/Ms Koay, Though I don’t know the condition of your dog, if it helps, blindness per se, in general, isn’t that bad a problem for dogs as dogs’ vision is not good to begin with. According to research, dogs don’t see very well. They rely totally on their sense of smell and hearing. If it helps, my dog was also blind in his old age and he lived a good life, navigating himself quite well. He passed away peacefully at 16 yrs of age, of old age.
