Always read the labels on the package before purchasing any type of foods for your pets. They cannot read; they depend on us.
This is a heart-wrenching photo of an owner singing to his pet dog before it passed away: http://imgur.com/gallery/KwTpC The suspected cause of death was the doggie treat.

The only treat my dog eat is the once a month Heartguard. I don’t quite believe in pets treats or meat jerky, etc.
It is better to give them food you consume yourself and know is safe for dogs, i.e. a spoonful of warm rice, banana, papaya, guava, apples, shredded chicken meat from your soup (no or minimal salt, best to wash with hot water first before serving), large bones, low salt crackers, home made bread, etc. It is a treat, so is usually in small amount (never a full slice papaya or an entire chicken drumstick).
If treats are needed for training, coaxing etc, best to be home-made. 🙂
Once a month or two, give them a charcoal pill. Knowing dogs, they love to lick and eat whatever pleases their nose ;p
